2/27 - Will Franklin's side of the story.. Interesting.....

This information is what many people already knew and have been talking about since Saturday night. There is much more to this story that had been reported before this morning's article. People who have rushed to judge Ruffin guilty will look pretty ignorant once the facts are known.

I agree with you 100% Coach. I do not have all the connections and get the scoop like you and a few others do. This to me is extremely promising...

Guys this is the first post I have made about this topic on any message board for this very reason. Coach, what you just said applies though to many discussions on message boards, its the worst thing about message boards...people rush to judgement. In this case I had info and in my heart I knew that these things often take time to sort out. I knew the girl had gone back to the police and said she was changing her mind, she didnt want to press charges.....and its stll not over, but ultimatley DR and all these guys just need to be careful about who they hang around...what a mess

The thing that bothers me the most is why is he still being punished when in fact all he did was try to defend himself and by accident she ended up with a cut lip, I think he has more then paid the price for this and it is time to put this issue aside and let the court handle it as with these facts he will never be found guilty other then using poor judgement in dating this individual.

A very, very sad event. While nothing can be done to unwind this unfortunate series of events, I hope that BU can begin to take steps to move forward in positive way by reinstating Daniel. The PJS' behavior in all of this is a sad testament to the professionalism and ethics of the people working there. I would also think a lot of posters on this board who rushed to judge DR guilty will have some shred self awareness / accountability and realize how damaging this type of character assassination is and avoid doing it in the future. .

FWIW, Because some posters had inside info, their posts made it sound like they were callus aginst cases of real domestic abuse, and sounded likely that they were supporters of real domestic abusers.

Since I did not have inside info, I would of preferred seeing comments like "Real domestic abuse is an absolute tradegy, I would never support a real abuser's actions. However I think the facts will show DR was not a real abuser.."

Real domestic abuse is a tragedy, but the students at Duke were treated horribly unfairly by the legal system and the local and nationwide press, they were presumed guilty, convicted in the press, and held up to ridicule, all the while the accusers being treated by the press like royalty, like saints, like martyrs.

Simply put...I don't think anyone favors a crime being committed.
But I, for one, favor fairness and truth over unfounded allegation.

Not a chance Dallas....those that rushed to judgement will NEVER even hint they were wrong.

In fairness dogs..most posters started those posts with "if this is true"
then went on from there...while others said let's wait and see what the facts are.

Completely agree with this post!

Why?

They are just as much to blame as our administration. I'm sure they had all the same information as the paper and they also did not do the right thing. If the administration gives DR the green light to play than the PJS would have been forced to react much sooner. PJS has no loyalty to BU or any other instsution but their own. They can choose when it is the best time to release thier stories as they see fit. The Administration at BU though should have never played the PR game in this situation. Again look what happened at Duke. Sometimes you just have to do what you believe is the right thing regardles of consequences.

I think Scouter's point was valid -- not everyone at the JS, and I know several of them (mostly little people who don't have the notoriety or visibility of Phil or KW), is out to get Bradley. In fact, most of the ones I know are alums with strong ties to BU.

That being said, I disagree with Phil's column's tone, especially as a former student who generally likes him as a person and respects him as a journalist. As I learned in his class, this particular column could be referred to as yellow journalism.

The PJS' behavior in all of this is a sad testament to the professionalism and ethics of the people working there.

That's a pretty broad statement though! I'm sure there are many people employed at the rag that need a source of income.

Read Luciano's article today and you may begin to understand....

Luciano's column today is a joke. I was referring more to the story about Will's statement to the police.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the PJS' ethics or professionalism. Your argument is more about BU playing the PR game in this situation, which, believe it or not, they handled correctly IMO.

Also, do some people really think the PJS had this story on Saturday when "many" people already knew this side of the story?

Let me get this straight: People think the PJS had this well in advance, in a competitive place like the world of media, the biggest story in the town, involving the most visible team in town and its star point guard. And instead of publishing it right away, they sit on it and give other media outlets the chance to get the same story? Highly doubtful.

It would have taken a Houdini-like effort to have escaped hearing the story many of us heard Saturday at the game, and of course,
Will Franklin was prominently visible in the arena and could have easily been approached for a comment.
I know nothing more than that, and yet even the police statement about the injury occurring when Ruffin tried to get the woman to leave his apartment,
this info was also available Saturday, but none of this was ever reported by the PJ Star until Wednesday morning.

Please review this time line and see the reports in many, many media about the lip injury, and it comes direct from Peoria Police spokespeople, but is never reported locally!
Note also that the quote of the police spokesperson never mentions the choking.
