Bobby Knight is now a member of the media

I am a huge critic of Knight, but I think this is a good move. I would love to see Knight as a color commentator for NCAA games.

I'm not a big fan of his but one thing you will get out of him is what he really thinks regardless! I think it's a great move and I hope he does one of our games though I would believe they will only use him for BCS games.

I thought Bill Parcells did an excellent job this year for ESPN. You could tell there were "difficult" moments working next to Keyshawn Johnson.:-D
I think he'll be great.

I wonder if they have certain set of guidelines as to what he can and can't get into? I would be shocked if they let BK just free-wheel on his own!

He has become the one thing that he despised forever.

My spider sense tells me that he will embarass himself in some way. However, it should be entertaining.

I love this move! Coach Knight is extremely intelligent, and a great basketball mind. Not to mention that he has a great sense of humor. This will undoubtedly bring ratings to ESPN. Can't wait to see how he does...

He has become the one thing that he despised forever.

You're right about that. He dislikes most of the talking heads and reporters but he has become close with a few of them. On ESPN radio last night Doug Gotlieb was talking about the hire and wondering if he will get along with everyone, or even anyone, around the studio. One of the best interviews ever was when Jeremy Shap tried to talk to him about the IU situation and BK went off on him about how he was half the reporter his father was haha.

Here's a little controversy now that Bobby Knight has peddled his talents to ESPN...........

--One guy who works for MSN claims Knight should explain why he's doing this, since he used to insult sports journalists and commentators so vigorously.
"Bobby Knight loved to express his disdain of sports journalists and often said that if he ever needed a brain transplant, he’d want one from a sportswriter because he knew it had never been used."
http://openmike.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/02/29/716976.asp

"The network (ESPN) neatly managed to forget that back in 2000, after he was fired by Indiana, he took a mean-spirited, on-air swipe at the network’s Jeremy Schapp. The following is from ESPN.com’s own report on the incident:

On ESPN, he often chastised interviewer Jeremy Schaap for what he considered interruptions as he answered questions. At one point he told Schaap, son of veteran sportswriter and broadcaster Dick Schaap: "You got a long way to go to be as good as your dad, you better keep that in mind."

--Bobby Knight also shows up in Palm Beach with his friend Tony LaRussa at Cardinals' Spring Training.
But although he signed with ESPN and will be paid by them he is being a little disingenuous...claiming he is NOT a member of the media......yeah, right.

"Knight signed on with ESPN this week to be a college basketball analyst. But he refuses to consider himself a member of the media, which he famously detested throughout his 45-year career.

"I'm a 'consultant,'" he cracked."

Meanwhile Texas Tech falls to 6-7 in the Big 12, and Pat Knight's record is 3-4.

Lets face it, he will make things interesting and he knows a lot about basketball so I kind of like listening to someone that has a good mind for the game and will tell it like he sees it; I would rather listen to him then Nance, Packer or Phelps as they are way to biased and the one thing that Knight did was his players graduated .

...and the one thing that Knight did was his players graduated .

Bobby Knight's players didn't graduate any more than the average for college basketball players anywhere else....
but people seem to think they did since this myth has been repeated so much by the uninformed that it is accepted without proof.

Bobby Knight's graduation rates are NOT 100%, and they are roughly average for D-I college basketball

By the way, Knight's name is being mentioned to replace John Bradly as head coach at LSU.

Whoa....we may just have to change the title of this thread...

Here's a report that says Bob Knight has:
"a provision in Knight??™s curious contract that prohibits any of his new colleagues from ever referring to him as a ???member of the media.???"

You'd better be careful what you call him, or he'll throw a chair at you.

Haha this is hilarious. The General would put something in his contract like that. He is the man.
