New Basketball Movie Bombs

I havent seen Semi-Pro but I think Will Ferrell needs to make a comedy outside of the sports genre. Old School still makes me laugh out loud though.:)

I haven't seen the movie either, but it sounds like people are getting tired of the one-dimensional type of humor that Ferrell keeps dishing out. Granted, a lot of what he does is very funny, but maybe he should dial down the bathroom humor, and as someone else pointed out, tackle subjects other than the sports genre for a change. I will however reserve judgement on this movie until I see it, which may not be until it comes out on video!

I actually just got home from this movie and saw this thread, and I totally agree, it's terrible. I totally recommend that no one go see it! It's sooo bad. Stupid story line and it's just not that funny.

Who wants to see Will play sports? Everyone just wants to see him playing..

more cowbell!

I saw it last night with BuBraves06 and he just needs to lighten up a little. It's pretty bad but if you're going in there looking for an Academy Award-winning movie you're shooting a little too high. That being said, this has to be in the bottom 10% of movies Will Farell has done in his career. It could have been much funnier.

Yeah, I thought they had a couple of routes to take... A serious sports comedy like Bull Durham, Slap Shot, White Men Can't Jump, or the like. Or, just a totally ridiculous, out of control comedy-- like, say, Anchorman. I felt like they kinda couldn't decide which they wanted to make, and it ended up a bad execution of both concepts.

Well, have you seen any of the three movies I specifically mentioned? All are movies with some serious themes and characters, but also with a dose of humor.

I found a few other interesting links:

Keanu Reeves, and it's on some cable channel just about once a week.

By the way...we recently ran a thread about the best basketball movies

and TWO of Sports Illustrated's FIVE BEST Basketball Movies (White Men Can't Jump, Hoop Dreams) also,
oddly appear on this list's top ten WORST movies! PLUS, one other (The Air Up There) is #11 and just missed the Top 10 Worst cut!
Go figure!

Its rapid paced, flashy cartoon action is single-handedly responsible for an entire generation of ADD kids and adults.

By the way, I'll add my own personal comment......
For some reason Jerry Maguire never seems to show up on either Best lists or Worst lists.
Maybe people don't think of it as a sports movie, but I sure do.
I would rank Jerry Maguire as the WORST sports movie I have ever seen,
simply because of the horrible acting.
Cuba Gooding acts more retarded in this movie that he does in Radio, and he sure is a wimp and acts lame whenever they portray him as a football player.
If a guy this wimpy and uncoordinated ever set foot on a football field, he'd be annihilated.
Anyway, the suggested "level" of friendship between the Gooding character (Tidwell) and the Tom Cruise character (Maguire), is kinda disturbing.
Maybe that's the way it was intended, but I think not, it just comes out that way suggesting they have an amorous relationship.
Apologies to anyone who did like it, but it struck me as very poorly acted and phony, and none of the major characters
acted like real people ever act.
