Dunson Commitment Official

commitment

commitment

This is a toss up for me..This kid is definetly a talented ball player, but it is another juco..I hope we have our sights on another mobile kid who can play the 4 or 5..I think Dodie will do very well and i wish him all the luck!

Toyota12-- Dunson is a JUCO who has a year of D1 experience. I think of him more like Cellus than a regular JUCO.

Welcome, Dodie! Can't wait to see you on the court.

I think DD is a great addition to the squad, especially for next year. The squad should be pretty decent two years from now ... the addition of DD raises the bar on what next year's team can do.

We will storm the Valley during Warren's senior year. Starting line-up:

Sam M.
Edderen McCain
Andrew W.
Will Egolf
Anthony T.

All 4 year players, taking the Valley by Storm. I guess I shouldn't look to far into the future though...

If DD can keep his head on straight and keep up with his grades, next year's team can compete in the upper half of this league. We will have a big, experienced backcourt, an all-league caliber swing forward in TW, and hopefully an improved frontcourt with the development of Austin and Egolf, and the addition of our highest rated recruit, AT.

Some more tidbits on Dodie Dunson and his JUCO -

-His team is awesome. They're 26-4, have 5 guys averaging over 10 ppg (ranging from 17.0 to 10.0), and another guy averaging 9.6 ppg. So, his 10.2 is right in line with the best players on his team and shows that he can buy into the 'team' concept. I was pleasantly surprised to see that, especially with all of the 'me' basketball you often see at the JUCO level.

-Their team as a whole has a great assist-to-turnover ratio, with Dunson BY FAR having the best with over 3 assists to every turnover (113/34).

-There are some other very talented players on his team. Devon Dumes (JUCO Junction #29) is probably their top talent. He's a 6'3" guard averaging 17.0 ppg and is being recruited by UAB, Dayton, Georgia Tech, Penn St, Texas A & M, Butler, and UTEP. Zvonko Buljan (JUCO Junction #14) is their big man, averaging nearly a double-double (13.3 ppg, 9.5 rpg) and is being looked at by South Florida, Indiana St, UW-M, St. John's, SLU, and George Mason.

-Dunson is shooting 42% from the field, 35% from 3, and 72% from the FT line. Not bad numbers at all.

So, it looks like Dunson has no problem playing unselfish basketball for a winning team, and looks like he has a great handle that can play both guard positions. With a solid DI year of experience under his belt Dodie is more of a 'known' commodity than a normal JUCO, and will step in right away and be a significant contributor in a variety of areas. He's not a 'wow' recruit, but very solid spring recruit that I think makes us much better.

BTW - Rivals has an updated article on Dunson's return to Division I (subscription only). It's currently on their front page! (I was quite surprised to see that)

Dodie is a great kid and a solid player. I wish him nothing but success at Bradley and anticipate his return to Hilton Coliseum next year to face his former squad and teammates. He is the player that disappointed me the most with his departure because he had obvious talent and is sorely missed this year with our lack of guard play and experience. He has good size, defends hard and when he gets hot, his teammates need to find him because he can score in bundles. Best wishes Dodie

Here is some of the jucojunction story...

"Dodie Dunson, (SO) 6-foot-3 (190) from Vincennes University, has committed to Missouri Valley
Conference school Bradley University located in Peoria, IL. Dunson, a Bloomington, IL native, is currently in his
first year with the VU Blazers. Dunson played his freshman season at Iowa State University where he
averaged five ppg for the Cyclones.

"Dodie really liked the idea of only being 30 minutes from home attending Bradley and that Bradley will be losing
there starting back court this season to graduation. Dodie has a great chance to go in and play a lot of minutes,
" said Vincennes University assistant coach Brian Davis.

Dunson on the season is averaging 10.4 ppg, 3.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the (24-4) Blazers. Florida Atlantic
and Illinois State also showed interest in Dunson this season. Dodie attended Brewster Academy in New Hampshire
after high school. He originally signed out of high school with Illinois State University with then head coach Porter Moser."

And according to the stats from the Vicennes University athletics page, Dunson is the 4th leading scorer on the team, not 2nd.

When is the last time BU had a player from B/N?

I thought about that today....there have been a few go from the area to isu but I cannot remember any coming from B/N to play for the Braves?
