Indiana/Minnesota

Looks like the Gophers will blow this game, as White hits one of 2 FTs with 1.5 left.

Not quite! Minnesota with the Bryce Drew like ending! A full court pass to Blake Hoffarber, and the shot with 0.2 of a second left.

If ISU gets held out of the tourney due to an Illinois or Minnesota tournament championship, then I've seen it all!

If Illinois gets past Minnesota, I will buy a ticket to the championship final.

Karma, Indiana!!!

I thought you were gonna say you were gonna buy your buddy MacabreMob a ticket right next to yours for the game.

;)

Just kidding.

Enjoy "the ride" bro. I feel the O&B momentum.

I know Indiana will get into the tourney based on their regular season. But the way they are playing recently, they have NO business being in there!

At the very least, a matchup against a team like Maryland-Baltimore County or Oral Roberts would just scream upset. In reality though, I think Indiana gets a much lower seed and gets pummeled by a Davidson or Illinois St!

Just in case you forgot.... Indiana beat ISU earlier this year by 13.

Hey, I'm all for MacabreMob sitting next to me in Indy, provided I receive 50 dollars haha!

But, as this season has taught me, we can't get ahead of ourselves, there's much work ahead, 2 down, 2 to go!! Minny scares the hell outta me. Yeah, we dominated 'em twice, but 20 wins in Tubby's first year? Illinois reminds me a lot of the 1999 team, but that team fell short against top seed Michigan State.

True, but then there was the train wreck to the finish they had. I don't know what kind of program they're running, but at this point in the season, you shouldn't be seeing any suspensions (Ellis) not to mention the threat of anarchy against the newly imposed coaching staff. ISU was very close in that game until the end. I think if it were played again, we might see a different score.

Didn't realize that Hoffarber (Min) that hit tonight's game winning shot, was the kid that hit the Min 4A game winning shot for state off is rear 2 years ago! - Just saw that on BTN

Indiana is clearly not the same team they were a few weeks ago.
They are struggling even against teams like Northwestern and Minnesota.

I guess it was karma for Illinois as the shot by Hoffarber wasn't too different from the game winner in Champaign off the backboard by Gordon.

Anyway...for those who saw it...the refs were clearly giving Indiana several gifts on silver platters....putting them on the FT line THREE different times in the final 3.4 seconds!!!

Two of the fouls were pretty bogus as guys were scrambling for the loose balls off the missed Gordon and White free throws, and the refs instantly whistle fouls that just didn't seem to exist, and the clock seems to stop even before the whistle blows!!
You can say what you want and believe what you want, but there were at least a couple extra guys trying hard to help IU get past Minnesota, the refs and the guy operating the clock, and they failed.
If I were Gopher fan and had lost that game, I'd have been furious with the officiating.

By the way, the kid throwing the inbounds pass, Travis Busch, is the kid who beat out Ray Brown for 2005 Minnesota Mr. Basketball.

Here is a video of the final shot and the final 3-4 seconds....watch how fast the refs blow those fouls and how quickly the clock stops!

One last comment, this comes directly from the Indiana Premium message board and is posted by one of their major posters:
"Irrelevant, I know Timekeeper error on DJ's put-back.
I just watched the recording again, and when DJ tipped back Eric Gordon's second free throw, the time-keeper stopped the clock half a second before it went through the hoop. You'll see that the ball seems to dip into the hoop, but rolls around a bit before falling in. The time-keeper stopped the clock too soon. That might (might) have made a difference in how much time Hoffen-Laetner had to shoot the ball.

I know the game was "lost" because of many other things, but if that shot hadn't gone in, we would have won. I would have been happy! I wouldn't be throwing away $300.00 worth of tickets, and I'd be on my way to Indy instead of moping in my living room like a loser, typing on a computer. So I'm a little grumpy."

Dan Dakich took over a team on Feb.22 that was 22-4 and had already played the toughest part of their schedule.
In his 3 week term as head coach, the Hoosiers went 3-3 with surprisingly narrow wins over Northwestern, Minnesota, and Ohio State,
and losses to Michigan State, Penn State, and Minnesota.
Their RPI was 8 and has dropped to 22, worse than Missouri State's was when they got left out of the NCAA,
although no doubt IU will get an NCAA bid. Their 3-point shooting has dropped off and over the past several games is under 20%.

Had the season been even a few weeks longer, or if they had a few more games against the upper echelon of the Big Ten, then their recent play could have dropped them to, say. 12 losses, and RPI of 55.
I wonder what the NCAA selection committee made up of numerous long time buddies of both Kelvin Sampson and Myles Brand would have done then??

One more thing..........Here's Indiana's record over the past FOUR YEARS in the Big Ten Tournament:
0-4....yes that's right, in DJ White's four full years at Indiana, their team has gone one-and-done all four years.
In fact you have to go all the way back to 2003-2004 to find the only win in the tourney that Indiana has had in the last five years.
Maybe they should fire their.....oh wait, I guess they did, then did again, and now will let the present guy go as well............hmmm.....that means they'll be going on their fourth head coach since their last Big Ten Tourney win!!

...maybe, just maybe they should have stayed with the guy who recruited DJ White?
Just maybe that guy, who is likely in the NCAA coaching elsewhere wasn't so bad after all.
Maybe some of the IU boosters were only looking at the glass and seeing the half empty part...

For those who may not have seen....here is the play by play for the final seconds.....

Illini curse???
Eric Gordon is 10-57 from three point range since that 3-pt banker he hit to beat the Illini!

I find it interesting how many games recently have led to some real grumbling about officiating.

Tom Izzo was quite unhappy, and the PJ Star has a story about it.
http://www.pjstar.com/stories/031608/COL_BG2DMQT5.080.php

Likewise Bruce Pearl had some comments, as his team got whistled for more fouls than Arkansas, BUT his team shot the same number of FT's.
(actually I was pretty happy to see the Vols lose, as I get really tired of all the Tennessee players doing all the trash talking, cocky stuff, prancing after every basket, chest thumping, and unsportsmanlike crapp that Pearl seems never to reign in...)

Coach K wasn't too happy, after the Clemson loss, especially after his freshman stud Singler was manhandled and went 1-9.

And Billy Gillispie had to be escorted off the court by his assistants because he looked like he wanted a piece of the official that called a late foul against Kentucky.
