ISU shafted

I agree....they should have gotten in.....now how many teams will make the nit from the valley....2 or 3?

ISU's schedule was weak, and I'm always happy when they fail.... But 3 teams in the NIT.. ISU will be a 1 seed..

ISU didn't have a chance to beat anyone, they should have scheduled harder, which ultimately was Jankovich's fault.

Old Guard Get's a Grip on Things!

Old Guard Get's a Grip on Things!

Looks like us mid majors have had our day and the 'old guard' has got things back under control! The obvious snub to the MVC and ISU is only outweighed by Butler's 7 seeding!
Oh well let's see if the mid majors get chased out of the NIT as well!

I'm ready for some baseball - Go SOX!

Whether you like ISU or not, the issue in my opinion is the continued unbalanced teatment of non-BSC conferences. Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. This hurts the MVC just as much as it hurts ISU.

ISU's schedule was weak, and I'm always happy when they fail.... But 3 teams in the NIT.. ISU will be a 1 seed..

I doubt it...#1's will likely be Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Syracuse. Mississippi and Ohio State are also in the mix for a #1.

The only way non-bcs teams can make a case is scheduling aways with BCS schools and winning some of them. Nobody likes having to do away games all the time with hard teams, but it has to be done to get the signature wins. Until more mid-majors start winning these games nothing will ever change.

The RPI and the inclusion of the SOS are the exact things the NCAA devised to help the BCS guys strengthen their argument that even the 5-6th best team in the ACC and SEC are more deserving than the 2nd best team in the MVC.

So lets see how they held up to their own reasoning......

Argument #1...
we look at the RPI-
--ISU's RPI was 33, and yet Kentucky got in with an RPI of 57, K-State with an RPI of 50, and Texas A&M with a conference record of 8-8 and an RPI of 41.

Argument #2...
we look at how you did down the stretch....
--ISU played all the way to it's conference final and won 6 of their final 7, 8 of their final 10.
Oddly, Indiana lost 3 of their last 4 and looked terrible doing it, and lose out in the opening round of their tourney, yet they get a #8 seed, better than half the tourney field.
Davidson won their last 22 games, they won every conference game and go 20-0 in their conference, and they end up with a #10 seed.
And here's the laugher...Arizona still got a #10 seed despite losing 8 of their last 12 games (and two of their only 4 wins in that stretch were vs. Oregon State who lost every conference game) and exiting their conference tourney early!

Argument #3
we look at your SOS..especially who you played out of conference...

--ha, ha...this one is funny,
Stanford's (they got a #3 seed) non-conference SOS was 292!!! Washington State's (they got a #4 seed) is 193!!
Texas A&M's non-con SOS was 224!
Clemson (they got a #5 seed) had a non-conference SOS of 182!!
Kentucky's non-con SOS =100!
Purdue's was 268.
And Notre Dame's non-con SOS was 279!!!!!!! and they get a #5 seed.

One last comparison, then I'll shut up......

St. Joe's...21-12, 9-7 in conference, RPI=44, SOS=53, non-con SOS=118
ISU..........23-9, 13-5 in conference, RPI=33, SOS=71, non-con SOS=117
I ask...why does St. Joe's get an 11 seed, ISU gets left out?

Plain and simple.....
--BCS bias
--east coast bias

The NCAA just loves the big names and the guys that get themselves into the
press even if they have to get into barfights to do it,that's why teams like
Memphis, K-State, Huggins' West Virginia, and USC all get favorable spots
They love the OJ Mayo's, Huggins', Joey Dorsey's, etc.....

...USC gets a 6 seed with 11 losses
.....West Virginia a 7 seed with 10 losses including a loss to Cincy

Memphis plays an awful lot of patsies!!
Drake gets criticized because of their weaker conference, but the MVC is stronger than the CUSA!!

Yeah..but not even making it to your conference final sure didn't seem to hurt Texas A&M, Arizona, K-State, Kentucky, Xavier, and Dukie!!

When you guys watched the other teams in the Valley play, did you think they were NCAA caliber teams besides Drake? I really felt that the league went down a notch this year. I also think that it'll be back up next year.

Many of the Valley teams looked to be one player away from being an NCAA team in my opinion. Each team seems to have a glaring weakness.

Of all the College Hoops I watched this season... All of them dropped a notch.

This is a season of marginal hoops for everyone.

Lots of good things on this thread so I will make a few comments.

1. I dont think that ISU got shafted. A lot of my reasons were described above. It is like the old boxing axiom that people will remember what you do in the last round to form a judgement. ISU loosing by 30 to Drake forced the committee to dig deeper into ISU's schedule and as I have said earlier in other threads, there were a lot of flaws to that schedule.

2. Memphis plays some patsies, but they also have wins against some quality opponents such as Oklahoma, UCONN, USC, Georgetown, Arizona, Gonzaga, and a 4 point loss to Tennessee. With a schedule like this, I think they are entitled to play a couple of patsies.

3. I think that the committee got a lot of things right. For example the ACC has a conference RPI of 1 and a SOS of 7 yet got only 4 teams in the NCAA which was dead on right. In comparison the MVC has a conference of 8 and a SOS of 9. On the other hand, I think that the Big East probably got one bid more than they should have as Villanova certainly looks like an NIT team to me.

4. My one major complaint with the committee is the continued practice of having mid-majors who have the potential to advance in the tournament play each other in the first round.

Lots of stuff here... Fire away!:)
