Patrick O'Bryant in D-League-- Bakersfield

Those are good numbers, so far, considering the guards in the D-league tend to be shoot-first guys. Mateen Cleaves, though, had 7 assists.

Good numbers for Pat, hopefully he keeps it up and gets the heck away from Golden State as soon as the offseason starts.

I hope Pat continues to beat up on the D-League. He needs to, in my opinion, to make sure there's some good interest for him on the FA market.

The guy can lace 'em up when March rolls around ;)

I really hope he can keep his focus and determination level up. If he does and if he can get matched with the right team, I think he can turn into a decent NBA player. After two years of weight training and practicing in the NBA, he should be physically and mentally mature enough to put the pieces together.

Some players in the D-League are under D-League contracts, and thus can be signed and called up by any team.
But POB is under contract to the Golden State Warriors, and they are the only team that can call him up, and it won't happen. But other teams are getting a good look at what he can do as a true post player, a scarcity in the NBA. And he is only 21 years old.
If a team wanted another team's player in the D-League, they would have to wait until after the season ends and make a trade, since the trade deadline has passed. But that won't happen, since POB will be a free agent. He'll get a lot of interest, and the way he's playing in the D-League, the Warriors did POB a favor sending him back to Bakersfield.

I should add I've always been concerned about his ability to play extended minutes. That's not a knock on the effort he puts into his conditioning. It's just an observation and more to do with his size. Anyway he has been playing mucho minutes, 40 last game. Way to go Patrick.

In the 3 games since Patrick has been reassigned:

Code:
FGM-A Pct Reb Blk Foul TO Ast Stl Pts
 7-13 .538 12 0 3 4 2 2 14
 9-17 .529 7 4 3 2 1 0 21
 8-13 .615 13 5 2 1 2 0 19
---------------------------------------------
24-43 .558 10.7 3 2.7 2.3 1.7 0.7 18

Even though it's the D league, those are some pretty sick numbers... I suggested Minnesota because he's a Midwestern kid who went to high school in the state (e.g., the Lebron/Ohio factor), but there are probably 25 teams in the NBA who could use a promising 7-footer... Houston would make sense in the short term if he wants to be a backup, though he'd be stuck behind Yao in the rotation for years to come.. In Minnesota he'd get floor time, he'd be able to focus on defensive responsibilities, and he'd probably get a lot of open looks when Jefferson gets doubled up. (I'm not a T-wolves fan, just thinking in terms of what would be good for POB).

Maybe the Celtics, playing next to KG, rotating in and out with Perkins, and letting Glen Davis play the 4? Might be a way to get another ring to go with the Sweet 16 rock.
