Bradley Wins!!! 79-73 over Ohio

Oh sure, you say that now, but isn't it true that with nine minutes to go you said "Let's finish these beers then head home!"?

Don't remember if I said it or just thought it. Sure am glad I stayed. Amazing comeback. I think it was our particular row that really gave them the extra lift. especialy section 13.

After coming down from the high of tonight's victory, there are still some things that bugged me, though it's probably too late in the season for things to get fixed. Leaving aside the fact that as soon as warm ups started it looked like some of the players weren't taking the game too seriously, some thoughts ...

Our offense was stagnent for most of the night, but as soon guys started moving off the ball we started our comeback. There were times in the first half where it looked like we were playing Dean Smith's 4 corners with Daniel having the ball up top and having no one to pass to.

I know it's been said hundreds of times but David Collins really needs to hit the weight room/toughen up this offseason. It seems like there is some potential there and I hope he works hard in the offseason to fulfill it.

Will Egolf is really starting to get on my nerves. As soon as I saw that he was coming in I commented to the people around me that as soon as he touched the ball he would shoot a three. Well not two minutes into his time on the court he gets the ball in the corner on a pass from Daniel and up goes a three, and go figure, he missed. He is now 0-14 on the season and I don't know if anyone has been in his ear about it but he really needs to stop jacking up three's. I'm sure he can make the outside shot, but he's obviously not getting the job done and it'd be great if he stopped shooting from long distance.

I thought our bigs, Theron, Matt S., and Rashad played a good game. I was worried that we were going to get tore up inside but as it turned out it was their good shooting that gave them their lead. That Bubba kid can really fill it up.

I can't wait to see more of Sam M. and Andrew playing together. Andrew had a great game tonight and Sam continues to improve with every game. I thought he (Sam) was especially aggressive tonight in getting to the basket and that's a good sign. His ability to penetrate the defense can provide open looks for our shooters if the defense collapses on him.

I'm not trying to be overly pessemistic, I guess I just get frustrated watching our guys making the same mistakes they were making in the begining of the season. The atmosphere was great tonight and even though the arena wasn't full the place rocked. I'm glad we got the win, now it's on to Virginia!

BU is more often than not the last team to hit the floor for warm ups. This happen Then I see what you see that some players are just going through the motions. Then I see bigs shooting 3's, hell we have one big that misses half his lay ups, inclueing one to start the game last night! Not sure what JL is holding them in the locker room but just maybe if they would warm up earlier and shoot the shots they will more likely take in the game, we may just get off to a better start and and go to the half with a lead.

As for DC, I'm not sure he has the heart and motivation to play!
As for WE, He is a product of coaching error as he should of been RS this yr.
He needs alot of work in all areas of his game not just the 3 shot
As for the Big's play, you left SS out and I know he did not score but he did
make a couple great screens that led to points and created tow def. plays that lead to turn overs and pushed his player out from under the basket. He did get bet on a in bounce play only because the guy push off and was not called for it.
Glad to see JC add to his records and how about SM and AW
Great game and we will win tomorrow night!!!

You cant redshirt 2 bigmen the same year with the lack of depth we had. Jim had to pick either AT or WE to redshirt and I think he made the right choice.

I hadn't mentioned warm-ups, but now that you mentioned it.......

I got to the game about 45 minutes before tip on Monday and what I saw was a disaster. More than half the BU players were sitting in the front row listening to iPods and joking around while the other half joked around on the court. Matt Salley did nothing but launch threes, SM DR and AW were shooting fall-away 17 footers while kicking their legs out, and WE was getting ally-oop tosses from KK's kid. Are you kidding me? This is all while I could look at the other end of the floor where Ohio was practicing post entry passes and finishing around the basket with some structure. That being said, JC was working on his free throw shooting, which I love to see, but he might have been the only one I saw take a free throw.

Does anyone really question why this team has started off slow the past 10 games or so? Get serious.

I honestly doubt any of that pregame stuff has anything to do with how a teams starts out the game. Guys all do their own things. Each guy has to find what works for them.

Not sure if you were at the game or not, but if you were and were watching both teams warm up, it'd give you a pretty good idea why Ohio started well and we didn't. It has nothing to do with each guy figuring out what works and what doesn't. The warmup looked like an early-morning shootaround. No one was taking it seriously, if they were doing anything at all.

Oh that has to have something to do with it. 40 minutes before game time I looked at my buddies and wondered alound if the team thought the game was a joke. If someone just walked off the street and watched those two warm up they would have put the bank on Ohio. You can't tell me MS misses that layup on the first possesion if he's practicing post moves before the game instead of jacking threes.

I thought the same thing, though I was informed by someone far basketball-wiser than I that I had witnessed the guard warmup and that explained at least why ALL the bigs sitting while one spent some quality time with his iPod.

But yea, the Matt Salley shooting 3s thing ... not so much. And WE shooting the 3 ... well, I think there are other threads that have been highjacked on Will's 3 already today. (Edit: oh, wait, it was this thread ...)

Eh ... you never know with him and layups though.

Maybe Ohio should have been doing these things and they might have won the game.:D J/k I see your point. However if you can't shoot free throws in your own gym by now, I doubt 15 min of practice before the game is gonna change that.

I realize shooting free throws in pre-game shootaround isn't going to raise your percentage 10%. The point I was making is that maybe we should be getting into the mindset of what our rolls will be during the game instead of bigs trying to be guards and guards trying to be Kobe. We looked like the And 1 team and Ohio looked like a division one team in a postseason tournament.

Salley has stepped up these last few games. I don't think that comment is needed here at all.

I agree. Salley has played much better the 2nd half of the season, and has given us all he possibly can. He's limited as to what he can do, plain and simple. I was as hard on MS as anyone (for on and off-court matters), but I think the performances lately of Singh, Austin, and even Collins has showed us why we needed Matt Salley logging 30+ minutes every night this year.

I agree that Matt has played better these last few games, but missing the bunnies is something that has plagued him all season long and it's very frustraiting to watch our starting forward continue to miss wide-open baskets inside of two feet!

MS's defense has been invaluable, and his hustle late in games has been a decisive factor. He's played bigger than his physical size and done everything he can to limit opposing bigs (who are usually much bigger than him). Seriously, give him some credit. I know he's made some stupid plays and he refuses to dunk in the post, but he doesn't deserve to be a pariah for it. Are we in Philadelphia or New York? I thought we supported our players as long as they give it their all.... I'm behind MS all the way, and I hope he has a huge game tonight.
