The "and one" call early in the 2nd half when they counted Uzoh's basket was one of the most ridiculous calls I have ever seen. I didn't have other major gripes...at least no more than I normally do. But for that brief moment, the refs must have thought this was an NBA game.
Weatherdemon - From reading posts on the TU board, I see you're into weather...perhaps I know you then as I'm a meteorologist here in town.
The "and one" call was pretty amazing since Uzoh shot the ball as the ref was ending his whistle blow, lol.
I am "into" the weather but am an Server/Application admin by trade.
I am into the weather because my grandfather could walk outside on his farm and smell the air and know what it was going to do. I don't remember him ever being wrong but I'm sure he was... occassionaly. I never understood how he did it and told me he to pay attention to how it felt, what smoke was doing, the clouds, etc, etc.
I wasn't disciplined enough to go to OU and get a degree in Meteorology but I do enjoy watching it and am enough of a geek that I will walk outside just to watch and feel a front come through. Storms or not.
Before I was in IT I worked with kids in the State's custody at a group home.
since most had been severely abused or neglected, they really had little concept of a lot of things, including what the weather would be for any given day. They would put shorts to go to school when it was 20 degrees out or wear winter coats when it was 90. I created a weather board where I put a five day forecast from the Tulsa NWS each evening after dinner.
My real name is Damon and as I was putting the forecast up one evening one the kids called me Demon in jest. That really wasn't appropriate for than environment so I told them just that. One of the girls said ,"What about Weatherdemon?" I thought it was appropriate in that sense and laughed and told her that would be fine and that was that.
My favorite local weather guys?
Don Woods, Jim Giles, Travis Meyer, and Gary Shore.
Gary actually let me spend a spring month at KJRH 'interning" back in 91, IIRC.
Very cool guy and he had a great staff.
Don Woods was the first one I remember and, who doesn't love Gusty?
Jim Giles was great as well. I loved how he presented his "best bet" and always let it be known there was room for error while still giving you confidence in his forecast.
Since Travis has taken his spot(I grew up about 3 blocks from him in Jenks which, was the coolest thing since he always waved and said hi when we rode by on our bikes. I think he is the only person that could have stepped in and filled that great void left by Mr Giles.
Anyway, sorry for the long story, probably way too much info, but, in short lol, that is how I got this moniker.
