I WAS for the CBI....

I'm nauseated by people who seem to have a sense that the season was a success because of the CBI. I'm plenty willing to acknowledge the CBI is defintely good for us; I don't think we can call it "great" though.

I agree....the season was NOT a success. As far as I'm concerned though the season ended in St Louis. This is kinda like REEEEAL early preseason, you know kinda like TAS's Bracketology in July or August:)......

I have ALSO learned I have to wait 24 hours after the game to post...to emotinal not to mention the libation factor. :)

I knew after the game last night to not even check this board. I knew it would be in MELTDOWN mode as it is now. We are blaming the refs, talking about how much of a failure this team is, the tournament is all of a sudden fixed? WOW! You guys stress me out. So just because there were a bunch of bad calls last night, this tournament is fixed, and a horrible tournament. I seem to remember that there were alot of bad calls in THE VALLEY this year, is our conference fixed? I am a huge fan of this tournament, of course it is about money, what tournament isn't? So we were below expectations this year. Were there the expectation that Ruffin would be out for 7 games and Andrew Warren, I'm sure was scheduled to break his hand in February, right? All that I can say is that I LOVE BRADLEY BASKETBALL! I love when I get to go to the games and I love that I have got to watch this team 36 times and counting this year! When is the last time that you could say that? For that I would like to thank the Gazelle Group for inviting us into this third tier tournament. I don't know how else we would still be playing in April. SO SETTLE DOWN FELLAS, WE GET TO GO TO CARVER AND WATCH THE BRAVES TOMORROW!

I agree. I haven't seen too many people say that, but maybe I am just not paying attention to the over-the-top stuff. I guess I look at our success in the CBI as further evidence that this season is more of a 'lost' season where we never really got an opportunity (mostly because of injuries) to see how good this team could have been.

liken the CBI to a summer trip abroad and getting in some great games....this may do more for BU than the sweet sixteen did.....players can see we will need help right away....

with Ruf and JC and MS leaving lots of PT to be had.....

Well said and all true POB...I would offer though that even in some of the stoopid posts (like mine:)) its the passion that we have that drives us.

We ALL love BU basketball.

this may do more for BU than the sweet sixteen did

Coach-

Based on a lot of your posts, you seem like a pretty level-headed guy and I like a lot of your insight, but c'mon, you can't be serious about that statement; the CBI championship, win or lose, may do more than a Sweet 16 run for a program? Even making it specific to this program in comparing the two runs; it's no contest between the Sweet 16 run and this run.

Would we even have been in the discussion for this tournament without the run of a couple years ago? There's a limited window to cash in on that success, and the window is closing.....a CBI championship/championship appearance, no matter what many of us as biased fans might think, won't do much to stop or slow down that window from closing.

I assume you're talking to me. I never said those were bad things. In fact, I believe I said they're all good. What I said was bad is people thinking this season turned into a somewhat successful one because of the run we've made in this tournament.

No Scouter. If I had beef with you I would just punch you in the arm, whine at you for a few minutes then buy you a beer. (You going to the game tonight? I'm hanging with Mr. and Mrs. Abe Simpson)

I will not be in attendance this evening. I'll be here on the hilltop watching Frank Deford at the Robison Lecture. Tell Mr. Simpson sorry I couldn't be there and that he owes me a cheeseburger (or four).

I would love to hear Frank myself...

if the talk up on campus is over before 9, tell Mr. Deford to mosey down and watch some basketball, they won't even be taking tickets that late.

The kids are still playing and that's good for them and the loyal fans. IMO some people just find it hard to give the program any credit. Go BRAVES, play one more and win one more after tonight.

I haven't been here much the last day outside to just skim through some of the threads. But this one has a mind of it's own!

Look, I would rather take ten of these types of seasons over ten seasons of seven wins. Now, do I think I would rather see this team in the NCAA or even NIT over this. Of course yes. But, the CBI is not too shabby either, and it is a positive thing for the reasons already mentioned.

I know some here are not huge Jim Les fans, and if he does not make the Big Dance again within the next two years, I wouldn't even begin to imagine what some people will say about him. But unfortunately, it seems like some on these boards are starting to get to the point of sounding like some BCS teams fans for not making the tournament every year. Guess what? Most teams don't make the NCAA Tournament every year. Not every team can be a Gonzaga! This does not mean we can't elevate ourselves up to that level in the near future under Les, but sometimes outside factors intervene and tjat does not always happen. And if we can't make the NCAA Tournament, I would at least like to be in a position every year where we are at least a decent of enough team to play ourselves into some sort of postseason every year. And that is where we are now.

I think everything about the CBI has been great for us, and I think it will show nicely next season when this team starts the season with so much more playing experience over the rest of the Valley.

The sweet sixteen was special...what a time in Detroit! Your right I wasn't really serious in the scope of our Coaches being able to recruit players and telling them the story about the Sweet Sixteen.....comparably this tourney does not accomplish that, but does put us on the TV and gives unsigned recruits a chance to see us and think to themselves"HEY I COULD PLAY THERE RIGHT AWAY AND GET SOME SERIOUS MINUTES!"

Did we miss out on the Sweet Sixteen success? Who have we gotten that we otherwise would not have?

The window of Sweet 16 success isn't closed until Maniscalco, Egolf, and Thompson are gone. Those 3 recruits are all direct products of our Sweet 16 run (go back and look up their reasons for coming to BU, they all cited the Sweet 16). I personally think that those 3 are an outstanding young foundation of 4 year players. In 3-4 years we'll be able to accurately say whether or not we 'cashed in' on our success. Right now, it's too early.

Gentlemen, I believe we've found a new thread regarding this Sweet 16 Window of Opportunity question.....I'll get it started....

This is an excellent point.

The CBI arrived just in time for our future stars. Granted, I thought we would be in the NCAA this year but stuff happens.

My question for all is...how much better will the '08 -'09 team be based on these additional games in the CBI?
