Juco Player Entering NBA Draft

Why would the best junior college player in the nation not get seriously recruited to any D-I programs, not even by Bob Huggins, Gary Williams, or Transfer U? (although Eddie Sutton gave it a try before he stepped down.)

Why would a guy who averaged 35 points per game and 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals per game in juco still not get a lot of looks from a 4-year school?


The answer is that Keith Brumbaugh has had so many legal and criminal issues, and has been kicked off past teams (HS, college, and junior college), and also has serious academic concerns, that it appears nobody wants to touch him.

So his only recourse is go pro, and he is making himself available in the NBA Draft.

Brumbaugh, who led all junior college basketball in scoring and also averaged 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4.8 steals per game, had been working to earn his associate of arts degree so he could sign with a major college.
"He wasn't far off as far as the grades he needed to play somewhere next season, but if the classroom isn't a priority to him, this is the best thing for him."

The real reason colleges haven't wasted much time recruitng Brumbaugh is in the highlighted areas above. The kid is way short of graduating and will never be eligible for a 4-year school. If he was, then his criminal history wouldn't have stopped some coaches from signing him. We know there are many who would overlook his criminal history just for a few more wins (see the thread titled "Gary Williams is getting desperate").

He will fit in nicely in the NBA with that history.

Guys please tell me one Maryland player under GW who has been in trouble with the law while at Maryland. This latest recruit may sound like trouble but one never knows. Steve Francis came with baggage and he has not been in trouble with Johny law from the time he came to MD and beyond. So to put his program under the same category as Memphis and a Huggins program is just not right.
I know you love to bash GW but at least be realistic.

Hmmmm....you may be right, Pete, Maryland doesn't have the quantity of thugs some other programs appear to have, but.......

....... there have indeed be a few arrests that have affected the Maryland basketball team,

and one of the Maryland basketball players was arrested shooting a gun in front of the White House, and he had a history of arrests when in college!

So I'd say they are certainly in the hunt for "renegade program" and have a substantial lead on BU.

Baxter was an X MD player not under the programs control! Disorderly conduct really is stretching a renegade program tag line I'm not saying the program is perfect but GW does run a clean program and his players will be disaplined when needed. He evenwill talk to the students about what is appropriate to chant or not.

I did not mean to imply that Williams has a history of going after kids like Brumbaugh. Actually, he doesn't. I just meant that someone always seems willing to go after these kids with criminal backgrounds as long as they can play well.
