Former White Sox slugger and DH Frank Thomas, who was released by the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, has signed with the Oakland A's.
Thomas spent 16 seasons with the White Sox, and 1 with Oakland (2006) before signing with Toronto in 2007. He was released after publically griping about diminished playing time. He was off to a bad start hitting .167 with 3 home runs.
The A's have gotten terrible production from their DH this season prompting some speculation they might sign Barry Bonds. This signing of Frank Thomas will end the Bonds speculations.

I would have thought Bonds would be a better fit for them.

As much as I hate Bonds.

I think you are right Pfunk but Thomas is much less of a headcase, even though he is a bigtime prima donna, but he is much less a distraction then Bonds.

Plus they are on the hook for like 800K since the Jays are picking up the rest of his contract, where they would be respondsible for every dime that Bonds would command this season.

Thomas is only there I think until the A's figure out if they are trying to win this season. If he doesnt hit or they start to lose he will get released.
