Jay Mariotti Still Hates U of I

tornado

New member
What's with this guy?
He's certainly not very respected as a journalist....all he ever does is write hit pieces.
He hates the White Sox and he sure hates Ozzie Guillen, and now he has really been going after Illinois.

Illini still owe Gordon an apology

If anything, Mariotti owes Chicago (and Illinois) sports fans an apology, or maybe better, he owes them to quit and move somewhere else.

What a hypocrite......

Jay Mariotti suddenly becomes a BIG ILLINI fan!!
You gotta read it......

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/844362,mariotti031508.article

"Do you smell what I smell, the sweet scent of Fighting Illini karma?"
"Indiana, which benefited from a suspicious series of free throws in the final seconds that smacked of the U.S.-Soviet Union Olympic stinker, suddenly was out of the Big Ten tournament."
"See what I'm getting at here? If things fall right, and providing he doesn't similarly burn the Illini, the Amazing Hoffarber might help Illinois reach the NCAA tournament"
"Eric who? Derrick who?"

Oh my.............Jay, you need to apologize to Eric Gordon and IU!! ;)

Mariotti has a job for one simple reason....
He sells papers. No one likes him but everyone reads him. I don't know how many times the first conversation I've had at work has started something like "My god, did you read what that *@!#$ Mariotti wrote?"

No shock here. He's been flipflopping with his columns from the time he started!

exactly, he is sensationalistic, but he sells papers as people always complain after they have READ his article.

besides the fact that i dont care for ILLINI's basketball program and Weber's complaints whenever not enough big ten teams get in...

yem549, I am guessing you are from Chicago?

Mariotti compunds his idiocy even more, by now calling the Illini a "farce"...
and he has turned on his newfound team in less than 24 hours and slams them!!!
He even tries kissing up to Indiana!!

Yikes...read this article by Mike Nadel in the PJ Star...
it seems obvious who he is talking about...he is talking about Mariotti and other pseudo Illini fans...
and Nadel calls them "Mopes and Losers".

I more or less accidentally stumbled upon the Mike North show this morning on WSCR, since I had left the station on after I listened to the Sox game last night.

I basically never listen to sports talk on the radio but this morning's show was really a hot discussion by Mike North about Jay Mariotti.
I am no expert, but obviously two guys who hate each other very much and hold back no insults are Jay Mariotti and Mike North.
North ripped into Mariotti and many of the things he has said and also talked about how many different jobs Mariotti has been fired from, incuding two different gigs in sports radio. He also pointed out how many miles Mariotti continually gets out of trashing anyone and everyone on sports-talk radio, esp. North, but then just how credible can he be if sports radio has fired the guy twice?
Then I checked a few things Mariotti has said openly about Mike North. Hmmm...these guys really don't like each other...and he doesn't seem to like very many people in and around Chicago.
I guess no matter how bad you write, if you are a "lightning rod" then you can stay popular and still write.

North is as much of a lightning rod as Mariotti is, though I do find North very entertaining and regularly listen to his show. The big difference between the two however is that Mariotti seems to change his opinion as often as the wind changes directions, while North takes specific stands on issues and sticks to his guns. I don't know what others think about Mariotti, but I don't think his reputation has been helped over the years by his constant flip-flopping.

I sure hate to make any more of an issue of Jay Mariotti than we already have,
as it's like giving the guy more attention than he's worth.......

BUT.this one is a real keeper, as the Trib has a great article on how poorly respected the guy is even within his own field, and by his own peers!!
Clearly the only reason the Sun Times must keep the guy is that he "stirs the pot", and after all isn't that really what some journalist's jobs are?

PS-- here's a great review of some of the idio*tic and clueless things Jay Mariotti has put into print...
http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2005/10/jay_mariottis_y.html

Remember...the Sox were the best team in baseball in 2005 and won the World Series.....
too bad Mariotti failed to notice that...

HE GONE. Have not read one of his articles in years.

PS, I never buy a Sun Times for this reason.

No offense Rick, but I think that's a silly reason not to buy a newspaper (even though I don't like Mariotti either). His columns aren't the only thing in there, you know.

I don't read the Sun-Times, or any Chicago paper, so I don't know what JM writes about. But I do read the Urnal-Star and Mike Nadel. You should all know by now that these guys write things to ramble rouse. MN can be all over a team, or player, one day and be their best fan the next. It all depends on how they are performing.

I get all the news I need to know over the radio or online.

Sorry Scouter, I'm with Rick on this.

IMO, there is hardly anything worthy of wasting my time reading in a newspaper anymore.

It's usually old news heavily peppered with point-of-views just to stir the pot and hopefully sell (more) papers.

For me, every once in a while I get the Urnal Jar... and the best use of it is finding it's place in my recycling container.

Hucccccckkkkkkkkk.......... sssssppat!

Hey, here's something that I still appreciate newspapers for....albeit this comes from an online resource...

This morning, a reporter from the Twin Cities Press/Pioneer Press (Minneapolis) named Charlie Walters
(who always has lots of great and obscure tidbits from midwestern sports that cannot be found elsewhere)
noted this.......

"Former Minnesota State Mankato star Atila Santos is scheduled to work out for the Indiana Pacers today in Indianapolis"
http://www.twincities.com/ci_9545423?source=most_viewed
http://www.msumavericks.com/player_bio.php?aid=2724

Now I'll bet nobody else cares, but this kid was a Valley player at UNI, and transferred to Mankato State. And this is what I love to read, how the ex-BU and ex-Valley players are doing...
So I do have a certain appreciation for the reporting that some papers have, although so very few actually
do the legwork and find any useful facts!
