UNC Violates NCAA Rule

Braves4Life

The Carolina Tarheels broke a long standing NCAA rule by scrimmaging in the off-season while their coach watched. It seems if a DEMOCRATIC Presidential candidate comes calling for a photo-op the NCAA will look the other way.

Hmmmmmm.........I wonder:

1) If this was Bradley or some other mid-major playing would the NCAA be so "unconcerned"?

2) If it was McCain scrimmaging the Tar Heels would they have issued the same response? (Note: For the record I would not want to see McCain in shorts or trying to play basketball..............not that I want to see Obama either ;) ).

I notice that there is a very sad story regarding North Carolina.

Their mascot, an 8 year old ram named Ramses XVII, has died from a blow to his head from his 3 year old son, Pablo. It is truly a sad day in Tobacco Road.
It doesn't seem right, but Pablo will now be renamed Ramses XVIII and take over as the new mascot! Where is the justice? :D--

By the way, what does a ram have to do with the nickname Tarheels?

I remember reading a foreshadowing of this event when I took a course on Sheep tragedy while at BU. In the story, Goatipus Rex, a ram fulfills a prophecy that said he would kill his father and marry his mother, and thus brought disaster on the university and its basketball team.

From Wikepedia:

"The origin of a ram as Carolina's mascot dates back to 1924. In 1922, the star fullback, Jack Merritt, was given the nickname the battering ram for his performance on the field. Vic Huggins, Carolina's head cheerleader at the time, suggested the idea of a ram mascot to the athletic business manager, Charles T. Woollen, and had the idea approved. The first appearance of Rameses was at a pep rally before the game against Virginia Military Institute on November 8, 1924."

McCain would have died from a heart attack because Tyler Hansborough's FIRE and PASSION and COMPETITIVENESS would have been too much for him to handle. ;)

For all the Cubs fans, maybe the goat thing means that they've passed the "goat curse" b.s. on to someone else. (I'm actually an O's fan and the only curse we have is playing bad baseball :( )

I'm an O's fan also, so I feel your pain, but it is the end of April and they are in 1st. Our only curse is really having Angelos as the owner. ;)

Yeah, isn't it funny though how Cubs fans have this hatred for McPhail and us Orioles fans see him as a savior since he's getting Angelos to leave the baseball stuff to baseball guys?

I don't know of any hatred for McPhail, or anything he did that would lead to a hatred. Can somebody help me out here?

As far as Angelos keeping his nose out of it, I don't believe it. If he didn't have his man-crush on Roberts, he'd be a Cub right now. The Cubs were offering more than enough for him, but the only way for McPhail to get the green light from Angelos was to keep requesting so many guys in return that Angelos would have to say yes.

If Angelos is highly involved, Bedard never would have been traded. He was the best O's pitcher since Mussina and close to, if not an ace. I wouldn't have accepted the Cubs offer because I don't really think Gallagher will be a solid pitcher in the bigs and he's the key player from the Cubs. If McPhail thinks Roberts has more value to the O's than what the Cubs were offering, or he can get more for Roberts in a later deal, then what's the big deal? McPhail understands that the O's aren't going to contend until at least 2010, so there's no rush to dump people if he thinks he can get more for them later.
