Billy Packer GONE from CBS

Wow, BB, I am impressed (negatively) by that article on ESPN.
For reasons heretofore stated, I guess I find it a little cheap to have an article about a current topic (Packer being replaced), then tacking on several paragraphs that take swipes and point out the low points in the guy's career from several years ago!

I am by no means a Billy Packer fan, but this is the type of hit-and-run journalism that belongs on an unmoderated message board somewhere!
They even reproduce a comment that was complete hearsay, that Packer supposedly said eight years ago!!
(plus he's already long ago apologized for it and his apology was accepted by the students)

Here's a classier, and much more professional, article from CBS, It doesn't appear he'll be doing ACC games :

--Packer also will end his long run as an analyst for Raycom, a regional network that covers the Atlantic Coast Conference.

"I have had a chance to broadcast most of the great games since college basketball got on national television and I'm not interested in broadcasting any more games," he said. "I enjoyed doing that but I won't be any more."

He said he is involved in a college basketball project that he'll discuss in a few months.

Here are articles chronicalling many of Bily Packers dumb statements through the years. There is a mention of his criticisim of the NCAA selection committee's bids to Bradley and Wichita State in 2006, and many more including (which I didn't remember) his ripping of the NCAA way back in 1979 when he said undefeated Indiana State with Larry Bird did not deserve a #1 seed.--

I recall being told Packer also said every game Indiana St wasn't good enough to make it all the way. But when they did, the Indiana St coach told Packer he owed them an apology (on National TV).

I wouldn't mind hearing his opinions on some sort of college basketball show next year. I just didn't think he was that good at doing color commentary anymore.

I think he loves the game, he knows the game, and he cherishes the history, but I don't think he cared that much for the games that he was announcing. When you have a rooting interest in the game he is covering, you don't want him to spend 3 possessions talking about one item that has nothing to do with that game.

I have to fess up, I "stole" this from the other board:
