I read an article a bit ago that peeved me a bit because I read it as talking a shot at The Hawk, among others. Here's the link - http://www.sacbee.com/kings/story/1079270.html - along with my email chain with the reporter who was, I must say, a nice go.

Very fair comment. As your stats indicated, he had a successful career. Terrific shooter and tough defender. I'd say Richmond had a better career than Hawkins, but I shouldn't have written it in such a way to imply Hawkins was at the same level as some of the others.

Scott, I enjoyed your article today but thought your inclusion of Hersey Hawkins was off base. Unlike the other eight players drafted around Mitch Richmond, Hawkins had a stellar NBA career. And, like Mr. Richmond, he was known for one thing above all -- dependability.
In fact, he scored more than 14,000 points, was a strong defender, and was an every-game starter until the last two years of his career. When he retired after the 2000-01 season, Hawkins left was in the top-20 all-time in steals and 3-point field goals made and 3-point field goal percentage. Not to mention the fact that he missed just seven games ??“ total ??“ during his first 10 years in the league.
Don Nelson would??™ve done just fine to draft Hersey Hawkins. Just fine, indeed.
