SIU-C Rumor

There is word coming out of Carbondale about some very bad news for their B-Ball program. Not sure what it is at this point.. but all of this year's recruits are on campus already and ready to go. The only thing my Saluki friend can think of is Mullen may not be able to play.

Not Mullen.. Bone Quits

Not Mullen.. Bone Quits

Not confirmed but the Saluki website now reporting returning starter Josh Bone is quitting the team

Darn. Now I won't be able to hear Mitch Holthus say "Knick knack paddywhack, give that Egyptian dog a bone" anymore!

I have also heard that Mullins is hurt and may not be able to play for part or all of the season. Hopefully he gets healthy and is able to play.

Lowery should have jumped to a BCS while he was HOT! Keno was a wise man.

What's wrong with a bit of loyalty. I hope JL sticks with us once he get's us to the next level. There is no way we'll be able to compete with the big boys regarding salary if and when the time comes.

As long as we continue to reward Jim Les for the performance we see on the court, I really don't think he'll jump ship to a BCS school. I'm not saying we could pay him what Duke pays Coach K. But as long as Bradley doesn't flat out say, "no" to a pay raise if he gets us to another Sweet Sixteen or higher appearance, I think he'll stick around.

Since Coaches Les and Lowery are both alums of the teams they're leading, I think it'll be tough for BCS schools to draw them away. Hey, if Creighton can keep a Dana Altman, there's no reason why Bradley and SIU can't keep their coaches.

I think B4L may have been indicating Lowery took over an already established successful program with players from 2 other coaches. Now it seems to be slipping only a little, maybe Lowery (who I believe had talked with Weber just a year or 2 ago about jumping to another program and BAM suggested he be patient and find a program where he is familiar with the recruiting area... like Iowa instead of Washington, just two I pulled out of the air)... anyway, now that it seems to be slipping a little, maybe he shoulda jumped when he was "hotter" no matter where the gig was, the pay would set his family for life.

Now on the flip side, regarding Coach Les. He took over a program in not as good shape as Lowery did with SIU. Coach Les is building (trying to build) Bradley's success.

If easy names like Mullins and Bone are gone, which players are those SIU-C fans gonna cheer for now?!? It must be pandemonium in Southern Illinois right now (T don't take this down, they don't even know what that means). Unless they steal Darius Smith from us, I see years of silence or awkward yelling ahead for SIU-C.

+1 rep

No word regarding any of these developments from any Southern Illinois news outlet. I'll let you guys know if/when I hear anything.

SIU really needs Bone, as their outside shooting otherwise is not good. I have heard Lowery is trying to work things out and get Bone to return to the team.

He never appeared to be the good shooter that he was suppose to be; somewhat like Cole-Scott was at Bradley. Sometimes it is better for a player to get a fresh start at a different school when he doesn"t live up to expectations.

According to the SIU Daily Egyptian, Bone saw the writing on the wall during the Canada trip. He played less minutes than Kevin Dillard, Ryan Hare and Justin Boycot. 2 freshmen and 1 sophomore, by the way.

Bone averaged 1.3 ppg during the trip. Dillard: 17.5 ppg, Hare 10 ppg

I believe it is about much more than this issue of playing time in the Canada games. He is the second leading returning scorer, and the best outside shooter the team had. I have heard rumors about differences with Chris Lowery that have been going on well before the Canada trip. It's been rumored that in getting some of the kids in his high-rated recruiting class, he had to make some promises of starting and playing time that just isn't realistic. If that's the case, look for other players to become unhappy.

This would be like Warren or SM leaving BU following either of their Freshman years. No matter how it is disected it is an extremely big blow the SIU program not only for this year but for the next 3 years.
