CollegeHoops.net Top 144 countdown -- 2008-09

I'd be worried if they didnt have ISU in there as 5th in the MVC. Theyre definitely not putting us even worse off than some of the MVC names they've put in.

Apparently someone just has faith in the MVC! Bigger question is what order they have the top 4 of the MVC in.

4. BU
3. DU
2. SIU
1. CU

Book it!

This poll is obviously based on who has heard of the teams.

No one in their RIGHT MIND that knows anything about college basketball would choose SIUC over Creighton...therefore this is purely based on which team you have/haven't heard of. Another indicator of this being the case is that Davidson is so ahead in the polls. Not that Davidson isn't the best team but to be ahead by that much just indicates that their NCAA run last year has them fresh in peoples' minds.

But again no credibility what so ever with SIUC getting that many votes and beating Creighton. Give me ONE source that predicts SIUC to be better than CU this year...

Is SIU really going to be that good this year? I dont see it........help me understand what I am missing?

No but have you seen national MVC coverage. They just throw CU and SIU one and two every year, then figure who lost scorers and slot those people in. Theres not a lot of thought or analysis to it.

(by the way, this thread now owns the record for the most replies of any thread ever on BradleyFans,
and is 3rd in total views behind the David Collins thread and the 2007 collegehoopsnet.com countdown thread.)

Sad that we care so much about collegehoopsnet.com's thoughts or exciting that we're all this pumped about this year?!

Or maybe collegehoops is just dragging this on far too long...

that's it...it's because they drag this whole Top 144 out so long, that each day we post more and people come back again and again...

Maybe I will update the ranking once a week instead of daily

Nah . . . what else do we have to talk about??!! Keep it coming T.

When is the last time we finished ahead of SIU in the conference standings, 8 years ago? That track record puts them ahead of us in every preseason poll until we change that, which hopefully begins this year and continues for the next 10.

It does? You have got to be kidding, right!?

So I guess with your reasoning there's no reason to even look at a teams returning talent, experience or chemistry. Let's just look at how they finished the previous year and rank them according to that. So I guess Drake is #1 this year, huh?

sure, because who the h*** cares who is ranked anywhere. Its nice to have some respect for the program, which we were gaining with the sweet 16 team but appear to have lost with last years finish. SIU has finished in the top 3 in the conference every year for the last 7 years that I can recall.

I personally feel that we can finish in the top 3 every year now for at least the next 5 years and get respect back. Lets hope that the classes play as well on the court as they look on paper.

But I am not too worked up about where we are ranked in the preseason...some look to be way to preoccupied with it.

It's looking like CollegeHoopsNet likes the MVC a little more than most prognosticators, who are projecting only 1. or in some cases 2, NCAA bids for the Valley. There should be 4 MVC teams in the top 66 teams.

Not sure if it all fits DC. They have 6 B10 teams inside the top 66 as well. And that can fit, but I just find it hard to believe (all of those) 6 B10 teams are gonna get NCAA bids this year. So why would 4 MVC teams in their top 66 get NCAA bids?

IMO, we will see 2 MVC and 2 B10 teams very soon and only 1 (a B10) team will be NCAA bound - according to these guys.

I'm sure they account for the autobids from smaller conferences. That "cuts" into the amount of bids that go to the conferences that get more publicity.

They do.

I am just suggesting to DC that 4 MVC teams in the top 66 means diddly-squat.

I think they will have 1 top 35, another in the top 45-50 with an At-Large Bid possible, and the next two in the 50's and then 60's (one going NIT and another CBI bound).

And also pointing out to DC, there are 6 B10 teams to come in this countdown. IMO, there will not be 6 B10 teams in the NCAA this coming season.
