Patrick O'Bryant to start for Celtics tonight

That's awesome! Hopefully Patrick takes advantage of the playing time and shows them what he is capable of and what Golden State is missing out on.

O'bryant scores his first basket. Two rebounds. Commentators said that apparently he was the 2nd leading rebounder in training camp.

I just found that the Celtics game is on Comcast channel 514, NBA-TV.

Patrick is playing well.

Hey, Nellie, you and your fish tie...

Announcer's comments regarding first half:

"...what surprised me the most was how easily O'Bryant got incorporated with the first unit.."

POB had a great debut with the Celtics! As mentioned, he was the player of the game. He ran the court, hustled on D, showed great hands, has gained a lot of upper body strength ... he looked very, very solid. The Celtics got themselves a deal! The Boston announcers were proclaiming at the end of the game that POB will make a significant contribution to the Celtics this year.

I also saw some of the Raptors game. AP looked smooth as usual ... 4-5 from the field (2-2 from 3 pt land). Its frustrating to watch the Raptors though ... AP is so unselfish ... the other Raptors don't quite have the same team attitude as AP.

 I was able to watch the 2nd and 3rd quarter and POB looked great. If he stays healthy even with Perkins back he'll see plenty of time. I'd expect Leon Powe moves into the 4 position backing up KG. The announcers had nothing but positive things to say about him. Also that ally-oop dunk showed his true potential. Also the 76ers seemed not to challange him on D and when they did he had some nice swats. This was just the first game but so far you could not ask for more.

AMHERST, Mass. ??“ Former Bradley center Patrick O??™Bryant was impressive in his debut with the world champion Boston Celtics Wednesday, turning in 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots as the starting center in the preseason opener against Philadelphia. After O??™Bryant helped the Celtics to a quick start, Philadelphia fought back for a 98-92 at win at the Mullins Center on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.

The ninth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by Golden State, O??™Bryant signed with the Celtics during the offseason and reports out of Boston??™s training camp are that he has been impressive. In Wednesday??™s exhibition, O??™Bryant hit 4-of-6 field goal attempts and both of his free throw attempts in 24 minutes. His first basket, a hook shot after rebounding his own miss, gave Boston a 9-0 lead 2-minutes, 30-seconds into the game and he had added three rebounds and a blocked shot by the time he subbed out midway through the first quarter with the Celtics leading 19-11.

In other NBA preseason action Tuesday, Anthony Parker??™s Toronto Raptors improved to 2-0 by pulling out a 113-111 home win against the New York Knicks. Preparing for his third year with the Raptors, Parker was one of seven Toronto players to score in double-figures by chipping in 10 points and three rebounds. The 1996 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the Braves, Parker hit 4-of-5 field goal attempts, including both of his 3-point tries.

The Celtics will play their second preseason game Friday by hosting Cleveland at the Dunkin??™ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. Meanwhile, the Raptors will not return to action until Tuesday when they host CSKA Moscow at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Wow. I never would have guessed this. I was sure he was destined to go oversees after his two years at Golden State. Hopefully, this is just the beginning.

I think he has already shown they were wrong about his work ethic. POB had a great game last night, and I believe he will have a very good season. There is nothing wrong with his energy, athleticism, and skills from what I saw last night. He has a knack with his long arms to get tips and deflections of a lot of inside shots and passes. He was only credited with 3 blocks, but he appeared to get a fingertip on several more, and altered a number of other shots and passes.
Patrick won't score big numbers this year because he will be primarily a backup, and the Celtics don't need him to score. But he will get a lot of playing time, and the Celtics fans are already wondering how Don Nelson could have given up on him so soon. Patrick is only 22 years old! I think he has a long NBA career ahead of him, and I am very happy for him that he ended up in Boston.
