2008-2009 Captains?

I did search looking for a ballpark date from last year but couldn't find it ... any idea when we'll know who the captains are?

I'm thinking that it's going to be Sam Maniscalco, Andrew Warren, and Theron Wilson, especially considering that they are featured on the billboards around town! :D

Isn't it usually more senior dominated? While a guy like Sam Singh might not be one of the best two or three best players, it's a long term guy like this that becomes a captain.

It may be announced on their Media Day. Some schools have already had their Media Days, but Bradley usually has theirs just after the start of official practice.

Its good to see someone make some good sense here.
SS is in his 5th yr. at BU and is the longest tenured player by two years over all the rest. Ya he may not be the best player in most people's mind here but lets just look at his resume.

5 yrs. at BU, still playing and contributing after two career ending injuries, a team player first type player, a player thats been through a sweet 16 run, 4 MVC tournaments, NIT and CBI tournaments, good student and graduated on time, has been a trouble free student, person and player.
With all this SS is my choice for Captain of this years team and the leader that will keep his teammates in check both on and off the court!
SS Captain, AW and SM Co Captains

I agree with MOST of this...I think SS should be a captain along with TW because they are contributing seniors. However, if SM is picked as a captain over AW then I would be royally ticked off for AW. SM has 2 year to be a captain when he's an upperclassman. He didn't start every game last year and did NOT contribute as much as AW did last year. Don't me wrong. I think SM did great and will contribute greatly to this years team but to give a sophomore who came in off the bench last year a captains spot over a 2nd year starting Junior that will probably be our leading scorer this year would be a SPIT in AW's face. I am not using that word for emphasize either...it would be a spit in his face to be undermined like that. SM has 2 years to be a captain when AW is a senior and when he is gone...AW deserves to be a captain this year NO DOUBT!!!

Your post is contradictory... Should captains be named on experience? or production? SM should be a captain because he is the unquestioned vocal leader of the team. Ask anyone who's observed a workout or open gym. Sam is nearly a player-coach. AW is a great player, but he's not a vocal leader. SM will almost certainly be a captain, as he should, and it won't have anything to do with how many points he scores. It will have to do with his work ethic, basketball IQ, and his leadership. I really don't think SS will be a captain, I just don't see it. But if he is I honestly think TW will be the odd-man out. He's in his second-year here at BU like Sam, but is no where near the leader. BTW, look at JC's sophmore year production where he came off the bench, then the next years, and I believe JC was indeed a captain that year. You'll often find good captains have little to do with past or even present production, but rather leadership and work ethic, in those two categories Sam surpasses everyone on the team,

I've never played organized sports in school. But to me, there should only be two rules for team captains:

1.) No freshmen

2.) Best man for the job regardless of on-the-court performance

Now, I'm not saying Warren isn't captain material. I really don't know. I'm just saying the fact that Warren has done more @ Bradley than Maniscalco doesn't automatically make him a leader. What's he like in the locker room? Has he taken any of the freshmen under his wing yet? Maybe he doesn't like to do that stuff. Nothing wrong with that.

That's Great!

On a somewhat related note, I think it would be a great atmosphere building BU campaign, in the week or a few days prior to every home game, have different billboards / large signs promoting them "crazy fan groups" that stand up, are loud, and wear their BU Red!

Set the game-time tone, "Are you fan enough!"

At least setup several large outdoor picture/video projectors with the fan images so you know what to expect as the fans approach and park at Carver. Play into the theme with several merchandise stands around the concourse. A big overhead "Are You Fan Enough" banner over a display of BU red gear, or signs you are handing out..

Fair enough, but a few points. JC was a junior when he was a captain. Andrew Warren has done nothing to deem himself not worthy of a captain's spot. What else could he have done the past two years he's been here to warrant him that honor???? I would be alright with TW not getting one in exchange for AW, and it is a possibility SS won't be a captain. I'm not the coach so I'm just guessing but still no one will convince me that AW shouldn't be a captain. He's a good student, a good athlete, and so what if he's silent...he takes care of business on the court and that is leadership in itself. If I had to choose an odd man out of the 4 (SS, TW, AW, SM) it would be between TW and SM. AW shouldn't even be in the discussion of if he gets one or not what else does he need to do for us?
