MVC/MWC Challenge

This is awesome. It helps us from both a scheduling and exposure perspective. While it may not always be true, nationally the MWC is generally regarded as a higher-tiered conference than the MVC. This is a very, very good move for the MVC.

Give me Alford and the Lobos. We owe them something fierce!

I wonder if this challenge is intended to replace the bracketbuster? I hope not... Looks like a good deal, might get some national exposure. Good for recruiting.

Great point! I think that would be a very, very good move if it replaced the BracketBuster. It would tell the nation that we're above the BracketBuster, which I think at this point in time we are. I think that the coaches would agree that they'd much rather have a game like this set in stone during the non-conference season, rather than a break in February during the heart of the conference season.

There's no reason you can't be in the bracketbuster and this conference challenge. It's just one game that the ADs don't have to schedule. Whether you like the Bracketbuster is another question.

I don't think it would replace the BB. . .this will likely be a pre-conference slate deal.

This will give MVC schools tremendous exposure in an outside region. Creighton and Wichita have probably played a number of the MWC members historically, just due to the proximity to its members.

Now we just need a network to pick it up.

And how they'll work the MVC's odd man out will be interesting to see, unless the MWC is looking to bring in a 10th member.

I think that's a good point too. Maybe this MVC/MWC Challenge will provide us with an out for the Bracketbuster. I don't like the fact that we have a schedule with basically an open date on it where we are slotted against a team that me may or may not "deserve" to play. With that said, I doubt it will change our participation in the BracketBuster.

I would prefer it to replace the BracketBuster. It would help us shed the 'mid-major' label even more. From a scheduling perspective, it would certainly make things easier on our AD's if it was in addition to the BB, as they already have a tough time scheduling anyone. Nonetheless, this is nothing but a positive.

I can't foresee a scenario where this isn't picked up by either the ESPN or FSN family of networks.

Great job Doug Elgin!

I hope the team excluded from the MVC is designated as the lowest seeded team from the year before, except that maybe no team can be excluded more than once.
That way it is an incentive to stay out of last place, plus we exclude the MVC's worst team so as to have a better chance in the matchups.

Great job by both conferences in getting this deal as it helps out both in scheduling decent games since most bcs schools will not play us in peoria.

KW has stated on the PJStar boards that the plan is for the Valley to remain in the BB.

The BB will be transitioning its scheduling so that no Valley school who goes on the road in the Challenge will play two road games (the new Feb matchup and the earlier return game) in the same year. So in essence the way its set up, a Valley team could potentially be forced to play 3 road contests, this new contingency will eliminate that.

This is a really good move. The MWC is probably the closest comprable conference to the MVC so we match up pretty well with their teams. I have to assume this will get picked up by either ESPN or FSN, so it will be a great way to get extra exposure.

I know a lot of people here want it to replace the BracketBuster, but I kind of hope the MVC stays in the BB. I realize it comes with that "mid-major" stigma we all hate, but it's still an extra chance to be seen on ESPN, and every game on ESPN is another chance for a potential recruit to watch the Braves play and fall in love with JL's high-tempo offense.

Anyone have a guess or read about the procedure they will use to decide what team has to sit out (since the MVC has 1 more team... draw staws???) or what team will play what team? I assume the commissioners will agree on matchups- trying to get the top of the MVC vs. the top of the MWC... etc etc...
