That kinda puts it into perspective how disappointing the turnout at the Lewis game was, IMO. We had 5000 or so people show up for the Red-White game last year, and we get half the turnout for this year's first public chance to see the team in action. Not a good effort from this fanbase...

Most places have their exhibition games as part of their season ticket package. I was told this was the case at SIU and Missouri State.

Unlike the vast majority of Division I schools, Bradley's game against Lewis was not part of the season ticket package, and required purchase of a separate ticket. Bradley has always done it this way because the first exhibition games in the past were always at the Fieldhouse, a different venue than the rest of the games.

The attendance at the Lewis game was comparable to many past first exhibition games. Once the season starts, there will be close to 10,000 or more fans there each game. There are only 2 other schools who will be close to that or better.

It will be more fair to compare Bradley's next exhibition game with the exhibitions elsewhere.

And, ER3, the attendance at the Red-White last year was 3782

Once the season really starts they will show up guaranteed! Really how much PR was given to this game? I bet most season ticket holders were not interested one because their tickets were not covered, two this was an exhibition and three a Monday.

Wichita State includes the exhibition in their season ticket package. For that reason you will hear that the attendance for the game against Emporia State on Monday will be a sell out...or close to it (I think there are a hundred or so seats still available). I would venture to guess though that the ACTUAL attendance will be much less...maybe 9,000 to 9,500 max (being exhibition and a weeknight). Can't always trust what a school announces the attendance to be.

So where was the game this year? Also, if it was at your regular arena, why not include it in the season ticket package this year?

DoubleJay there are a lot of changes happening on our campus (a new sports complex is being built right now) and I'm sure they over looked on how to market this game. In the past the game was played on a on campus facility (was torn down) which made it a lot easier for students to walk on over. Carver Arena takes a bit more planning for our students to get down to. Also playing at the old field-house always seemed to drawl the old timers because it brought up a lot of great memories. Carver is just Carver right now and alumns that are busy would rather wait untill the season begins before they cash in their chips to their wife of why they will not be home tonight.

Fair enough, I stand corrected...I guess I must have read in some of the threads here that people were estimating the attendance at the fieldhouse last year at being closer to the 5000 mark...and I guess I misinterpreted it to be the actual reported attendance from the Red-White game.
Not a big deal...it was not a horrible turnout, but I guess I was just anticipating that there would be closer to 4 or 5K there for the Lewis game...so the 2500 seemed like a big letdown to me...But I guess I may have been unrealistic in that expectation as I was mainly basing that on my incorrect understanding that there were around 5K at the Red-White last year...
Oh well...onward and upward.

As I posted on another board, attendance is not something Bradley needs to worry about!

I believe Bradley is 8th among Valley teams in enrollment, yet should again finish #3 in home attendance!

The Monday night game was a killer I bet too. Normally the Red-White is a Friday or Saturday night game, and the first exhibition usually is too if I remember right. I bet there will be at least 8,000 there on Sunday.

Actually, Bradley's home attendance last season set an all-time record.
They drew 182,392 for the season, thanks to a couple extra home games in the CBI.

That was good enough to finish with the 2nd highest home attendance in the MVC. Here are the final attendance numbers for the top 3 teams in ther MVC--
1) Creighton...276,000 total home attendance
2) Bradley......182,392
3) Wichita......157,170

I think there was too much newness/uncertainty about how the Lewis game was marketed for the price. Yes, the $10 for what I got in the fandemonium + nearly floor level seats was a good deal. I was very glad I went.

But you had to buy (at Shea not he old fieldhouse) before you knew what Fandemonium really included (I could not find anything more than the press release on bradleybraves.com, and that was after a lot of digging. Yes they had the advertisement when you entered, but when I clicked on it to learn more, it went nowhere) And you had no guarantee that you would get great seats...

Guessing here but I bet many who are season ticket holders didnt have interest because they were not guaranteed their normal seats. General admission I bet had quite alot to do with the season ticket holders for the most part staying away.

I think you hit on something there. There must be a lot of attachment to those seats. Seemed to be a lot of fans scattered around, even some in the upper bowl when there were much, much closer seats available.

I loved the general admission as a student who could get down there very early. But part of the reason I am not sitting in the student section next year after I graduate(it's common, just leave it alone), is because I don't want to have to worry about leaving work early or anything to fight for a seat. So I see how those who are working individuals wouldn't appreciate the general admission.

Alot of the season tickets are corporate and they are not purchasing anything extra, also Bradley has to pay extra to rent the civic center and that is why the 1st exibition game cost 10.00 , the 2nd one is included as part of your season ticket package just like in the past. The die hard fans were their on monday as 10.00 is not too much to watch a college basketball game.

Most places have their exhibition games as part of their season ticket package. ...

Every one of the games listed in the post that starts this thread has that exhibition game as part of their season ticket package.

So it is unfair to compare the attendance on BU's exhibition that was not on the season ticket package with all those other teams that have it as part of the season ticket package and who would have counted the sold seats even if they were empty!!

Drake's web site says that the exhibitions are part of the season ticket package, same with Evansville and the others...

we'll see what BU draws Sunday at the exhibition that is part of the plan..last year we drew 8,244, much more than what most Valley schools draw.

Seems someone was trying to start something making that initial post that tries to show BU's attendance was weak.

I don't think the attendence numbers are anything to get that worked up about. Remember "it's just our first exhibition game." Since it was moved down to Carver I think it should have been included in the season-ticket package, but it certainly was nice to sit center court, definitely a change for me.
