Whelliston at Carver tommorrow

I've tried to lay low regarding all the hubub with the many issues on the board the past week or so, but, true to form, I can only hold my tongue so long.....

With regard to all the "negative incidents" that have been mentioned in this post, why do many have more vitriol for those that criticize the behavoir/incidents than the actual offenders? I'll support our players as much as I can, but at the same time, if they did wrong, they did wrong. Period. That has to be acknowledged and accepted, not debated every single friggin' time it comes up. These incidents happened, people; no amount of spin is going to change that. No incidents that happen anywhere else and the subsequent punishment/non-punishment by the other program/school/NCAA will make them go away and are, quite frankly, irrelevant to what happens at OUR program. Worry about what happens here, not what happens somewhere else.

Now, does BU fit the "renegade program" label that has been tossed out there? No, no, and no. Whelliston is guilty of using some hyperbole, but the root impetus for him to use such talk is that we did have some bad press caused by some self-inflicted bad decisions. But, to downplay the incidents is is also doing a disservice due to the classic "slippery slope" conundrum. I hope I don't need to explain that to everybody.

Finally, I'd like to remind everybody of two phrases:

"You get more bees with honey than vinegar."

"Don't bite the hand that feeds you."

If anybody does get a chance to meet Whelliston tonight, don't be a douchebag. The last thing we need is to for anybody to act like a "renegade fan." I'm not saying anybody's got to kiss his derriere, but if you want to discuss his past statements, be professional about it, OK? We complain and complain about not getting the "respect" that our program and other "mid-major" programs deserve, and here's a guy, Whelliston, who does try and get the publicity out there, and some want to burn him because he made an excessive comment instead of trying to establish a good relationship with him.

That being said, God I hope that BU has their stuff together tonight and puts a good whuppin' on UIC.

Right on, BU ICEMAN. I want Whelliston to admit he might have been wrong, but if he doesn't, or actually still thinks he's right, that's fine. It's not worth being a douchebag over... I hope he has a good time tonight, and I hope BU can take UIC down and take a positive step forward on the "gelling" front.

Great to see opening night finally here! And that includes James Bond as well, but that will be another topic on another thread. :)

As far as Kyle goes, last year's comments notwithstanding, I think he is a good ambassador for the mid-majors and thankfully ESPN has him in order to balance out some of their other BCS pundits. Hopefully the atmosphere is great tonight and Kyle enjoys himself.

Well - nobody has to worry about me being confrontational. I prefer to avoid and not engage. Unlike some down at the games.
-cough, cough-

I won't mention any names but DRU just about got into a fight with a coach.

Hey it wasn't MY fault Eustachy had/has anger mgmt. issues.....:)

I think this is getting taken way to far, WHellistone, no one is asking that he get pelted with Beer or is embarassed. Some just think it would be OK to ask him about past comments. My goodness the guys in the media and I would think he wants the attention. Again IF he can't handle backing up or discussing past articles/comments I would offer he's in the wrong business.

And most importantly, let's just win the game and give him something positive to write about BU...

Its (pre) gametime and I think this is a good way to end this debate....on something we ALL can agree on.

GO BU.

Lets rock the place.

Sorry DRU - was just trying to be funny. I know you didn't work Eustachy over and get him all frenzied-up. ;)

Saw KyleW - he sat courtside in the spot reserved for "best seat in the house" or whatever (under the basket on the opposite end of the student section).

He seemed happy - approachable - engaging - saw Searby working with him often to make sure all was good.

I hope his experience was a pleasant one.

After the game me, squirrel and the reclusive srw met up with Kyle at Old Chicago for some late night pizza and basketball talk. He's a fun guy to talk to and he had some good stories from around the Valley.

Man... I woulda loved some OC pizza.

Hope KW had a good time and comes back to Peoria for another basketball game.

Btw - that's a funny pic.

I'm not a huge fan of the OC pizza... It's ok, but not worth going out of the way to get. imo

Did Kyle wear his silver tennies? No street cred with those type of shoes....:-P

I just drove down Bradley Ave and I swore I saw a pair of Silver Tennies s hanging from a power line.:-P:lol:

Kyle sat on the end of the press table ...

Kyle who??.....I never noticed...
there was a great game going on, so I hope all the Whelliston-worshippers got to see some of it.
Fortunately some 10,000 folks did and never even noticed who was sitting on the end of the press table.

That was what I was hoping for.;-)
