What I miss about JC

SFP

New member
What I miss about JC most is not his shooting (suprised) but his basketball IQ. He was never ever out of position and he knew where everyone should be at all times. This year if anything that is what we are missing. I believe AW would have been that guy and SM is to preocupied making sure he does not blow his coverage, that there is not a guy on this team that can truly just react. TW comes close and probably will be that guy come January but can you imagine how much better he would be if he was here all 4 years.

4 year players will make JL's system look that much better. I believe it takes a good 1.5 years playing in it during game time to truly learn it without having to over think it.

I get what you are saying about the system because the thing that I always felt was most amazing was the number of steals a quickness challenged guy like JC would get just from understanding where he was supposed to be and cutting off the passing lanes. Hopefully some of these younger guys will be ahead of the curve and start making those plays this year.

Exactly his BB IQ was incredible, as was the improvement he made going from a shooter, to a scorer to a leader to a very good all around player on both ends of the court including rebounding. That guy went from starting to sitting on a sweet 16 team to getting injuried to simply being one of the best to have ever played at BU.

Last year it was so sweet to see him take some guy off the dribble litterally when ever he wanted and the look on that guys face essentially how is this guy doing this to me and why can I do anything about it was priceless.

he was so consistent in various aspects of the game (going along w/ the IQ).

if he wasnt hitting his shots he would help set up the plays

man gotta miss the JC

retire it

I can understand the retire it a little but others deserve that designation before JC

JC was great for 2 years not 4 and I think to retire a number you have to be exceptional for your "entire" career.

Recently Parker is the only BU player who comes to mind who might have retire the jersey considerations. I am sure we have some "aged" fans who might even have a few others from years gone by who deserve consideration also.

JC was very good but to retire his number, no.

Amen to that. Our head coach was one of the best college point guards of his era, and his number isn't even retired. Good lord.

In my opinion, he had 3 awfully good years. His frshman year wasn't too shabby.

onetuffshot, I am with you. I think that 3 out of his 4 years on the Hilltop were great. I personally believe he would have had 4, if the coaching staff didn't feel the need to "Make his shot quicker" his sophomore year.

BU misses his court presence and his mind.. Like most of you said, he was so smart on the floor.

My thoughts exactly. JC was above average in shooting skills and BB IQ but not retiring his number good. Don't get me wrong I would take as many like him we could get. Just not hanging the jersey good. I hope he has a great experience overseas and someday gets back on the hilltop as JL's assistant.

In his Freshman year he averaged 8.3 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, about 2 assists and 2 TO's per game started 24 of 28 games shot 39% from the field and 36% from 3.

Those are decent solid numbers for a freshman.. not great.

JC had 3 pretty good years and his Jr. year he was hampered w/ that knee injury...

He was a great player and should be recognized as such....but to retire his jersey...?

Anthony Parker's # is still not up in the rafters...how that is boggles my mind...

That being said, we really miss JC's play-making ability this year and the fact that we really REALLY desperately need another shooter.

Not saying that this is the case in this situation, but many times they wait until the athletes playing days are done before honoring them - My guess is that when his professional career is through his jersey will be retired. I don't recall how they handled the Hawk - was his jersey retired while he was still in the league?

I have been told this is the case. Between his 2 stints in the NBA and his European career, AP has never been able to return to Peoria during the basketball season. Bradley does plan to retire his number, but it will have to wait a while.

I would say All-Star weekend would be a good time when the NBA goes on break, but AP may have to compete again in the 3-pt shootout.

JC was a great player -- one of my favorites, just like most of you have said -- but retiring his number is a bit much. Bradley actually has qualifications to have your number retired, as stated in a media guide from a few seasons ago. It says the following minimum qualifications must be met:

-- earned undergraduated degree or have made significant progress toward such (i.e., if they depart prematurely for a professional career or extenuating circumstances).
-- Honorees who meet the first criteria and either have been chosen as a member of an All-American team by a body recognized by national media (Honorable Mention would not qualify) or have earned an Olympic medal as a participant would be given an automatic endorsement.
-- In lieu of achieving the accolades in the second criteriea, selection as league Player of the Year, an outstanding professional career or demonstration that an athlete was by far the best to play his or her sport at Bradley would be grounds for an endorsement.
-- Yadda yadda about embodying ideals and standards of behavior expected by Bradley (read: The Squeaky Doctrine).

I would have loved to see JC guard Boyle last night and Boyle guard JC. That would have been a fair match up. If we would have moved TW to the 3 position and guard Boyle then we could have stopped him.
