Let's see if we can ride the SIU win to a road win on Wednesday!

Wichita gave Georgetown and Wich. St. pretty close. Though they also lost to UMKC at home.

Like Bradley, it might be a matter of which Wichita State team shows up to play.

Looking at their stats, if we keep them off the boards and slow their guards (Hannah, Murray) down we should win....

Come out w/ the same intensity we had against SIU and we'll be very hard to beat.

They're kinda like the SIU of old...really good D that keeps them in the game even when shooting horribly, which is what they do. All we have to do is play solid defense back and even a mediocre offense will win it.

Rebounding could be a key. Wichita State is the top rebounding team in the MVC--

REBOUNDING MARGING
Team................Games....Team...Avg......Opponent.....Avg......Margin
1.Wichita State.....12........441.....36.8........350.........29.2.......+7.6
2.Evansville..........11........429.....39.0........362.........32.9.......+6.1
3.Illinois State.......12........448.....37.3........386.........32.2......+5.2
4.Drake................13........440.....33.8........388.........29.8......+4.0
5.Northern Iowa.....12........388.....32.3........365.........30.4......+1.9
6.Southern Illinois...12........395.....32.9........392.........32.7......+0.2
7.Bradley..............12........417.....34.8........415.........34.6......+0.2
8.Creighton...........13........428.....32.9........463.........35.6......-2.7
9.Missouri State.....12........373.....31.1........417.........34.8......-3.7
10.Indiana State....12........394.....32.8........446.........37.2......-4.3

It's hard to be pessimistic after the last game. It's hard to be optimistic after the last road game.

I assume Bradley will play a lot of zone since WSU doesn't shoot very well. This could help keep some guys out of foul trouble & maybe with the rebounding. I found it interesting that Chris Lowery mentioned getting BU into foul trouble as a part of their gameplan.

It was clear that was going to be their gameplan...

Maybe we should take from that and try it out on Clemente? It seems that when he is in foul trouble they don't play very physical in the paint and don't rebound remotely as well as when he is on the floor...

I also agree on playing zone, but as you know teams generally shoot better at home so I will take a wait and see approach on that.

We have a great chance to come out of Wed. 2-0 and if we execute on both ends of the floor, play the full 40 min, and play with the same team effort as Sun. we should win this game.

Well, we have a great opportunity to get off to JL's best Valley start in his 7 years as coach. Getting off to a good start in conference has never been a strong point of this regime, that's for sure. Wow.

02-03 - Started 0-3 (finished 8-10)
03-04 - Started 1-8 (won opener, lost 8 straight, finished 7-11)
04-05 - Started 1-1 (lost opener, finished 6-12)
05-06 - Started 1-1 (won opener in OT, lost opener in OT, finished 11-7)
06-07 - Started 1-1 (lost opener, finished 10-8 )
07-08 - Started 0-4 (finished 9-9)

08-09 - Started 1-0 (won opener)

Let's get off to our best start since 2000-2001 season (started 5-0, finished 12-6, made MVC title game). Come on Braves!

Interesting strategy to schedule a game on New Years Eve night LOL. Maybe they wanted to keep the players out of trouble. A good strategy though, keeps their minds in the right place and not thinking about the possibility of going to a party.

It just seemed odd to me that he stated that as part of their gameplan. Usually, if you are aggressive & take the ball to the hoop consistently and the other team isn't that good at blocking shots or taking charges, fouls will just naturally happen or you'll get uncontested close shots.

It seems like a psychological blow to hear from your coach that you need to get some guys on the other team in foul trouble. Unless there is a dominant player on the team playing Bradley, I really don't want to hear Coach Les saying this.

Thanks for the early conference starting stats, BB.

Nah...if you were a fan back in the 80's you'd understand that Versace did this a lot...

Some coaches are smart that way...get the starters in foul trouble and teams have to rely on their benches which usually aren't deep and are less talented...

It worked for a short time for SIU w/ Theron picking up his 2nd foul...Lowery just didn't think we were as deep as we are or we could pick up the slack w/ T out of the game...

But it is a strategy used by lots of coaches...

And in SIU's case its a situation where they aren't deep and can't be as aggressive when in foul trouble...it certainly took the wind out of Mullins...the kid didn't score the 2nd half...

Its not quite like saying, hey this guy shoots very poorly from the foul line, hack the h*ll outta him....but it serves the same purpose.

Man. I just realized I won't be able to watch the game because it is new years eve. I've got plans. Well, I hope it'll be on the website the next day.

Critical game

Critical game

I think you could argue this is the most important game of the year in that a win would show consistency...in addition, back to back wins in the Valley are hard to get...speaking of consistency, it would be nice to see another good game by our low post guys..

Wichita is a team we need to beat if we're serious about contending for a conference title.

Speaking of which, I head out for Kansas this afternoon...

Can anyone give me an idea of where the team is staying and/or what to do around the area...I have the trusty GPS w/ me, but help is always appreciated :D

I am not able to access my copy, but the Media Guide lists all the hotels that the Bradley team stays at on their road trips every year. The Wichita hotel would be listed there.

Any way to watch the game (for free) on the computer?

There is something called ShockerVision.tv, which is similar to BUBraves.tv. The stream live video of their home games, but it is not free.

My concern is 10,000 wichitans(if that's a word) that have nothing better to do in Wichita on NEw Year's Eve than go to this game. The roundhouse is always a hostile environment, but it may be extremely so tomorrow night. I predict we go down 60-54.

So if we win, then "everyone" will have had us losing and thinks Bradley is not a good team.
