Promotions entry & the lineup intro video

-I was just curious how one goes about participating in the game promotions, like the Wild Wings shots and that halftime longest shot contest?

-Also, does anyone happen to know if they are going to change that boring lineup intro video? Last couple years they have changed it for the Valley season but they didn't today. It's a serious attention killer for me and several other fans i've talked to.

I agree the intro thing is bad. It has always been toooooo long and very amateurish and sophomoric. I would like to see it go bye-bye. Just let the band play a quickie fight song and get on to the BU player introduction. I think the video is an embarrassment (especially when BU has not won the conference since 1996). It's as if we are bragging that we are so good and the other team should be in awe.

During break I am one of the members of the athletic marketing crew. All of our participants are chosen by us simply going through the crowd and finding who we feel are appropriate participants. For instance, I was looking for two people about the same age today to participate in one of our promotions, as I was walking the concourse between events, I came across two girls who I thought would be good for it. Easy as that. Other promotions have different criteria. Best seat in the house typically comes from the upper bowl and such. I do feel that some of the other members choose their friends sometimes. However, I try to find people I don't know.

GDog, I couldn't agree more. The old Fieldhouse introductions were the best, IMO. Turn off the lights, introduce a player as he dribbles to halfcourt under the spotlight. Now, it's too long just as it is for the Bulls, Suns, etc.

People are at a college game to be entertained by the pre-game, introductions, time-out skits and 1/2 time shows?

I thought people went to watch the game.

It really does seem to defeat the purpose of firing up the team and crowd by playing the same video before each game.

Honestly, I liked the original video better...

I even liked the one that had the 3D view of downtown coming into the arena...

The best idea though was getting previous players at the beginning to introduce the players...that always gets the fans fired up.

Your kidding right? Am I right in thinking you are talking about the "Special Announcements" that came before the videos in the year after the sweet 16 appearance? I thought those were the biggest buzzkill and waste of time. you couldnt hear what they were saying because everyone was fired up that the lights went out and it was time to announce the Bradley line up. I remember thinking that they were absolutely pointless. Especially towards the end of the season when they were running out of people and they had people like Jim Les' brother do it

I actually liked that. I didn't know all the people, but it was cool to see some former Braves kick it off.

I also like the video we have now but I agree it could be shortened a little bit....One thing I do miss is that as soon as the last BU player is announced the BAND use to start a rythmic beat and then break into "swing march" right up until the opening tip. I always liked that and I miss it. Another way of saying this is more band and less canned studio music...get the students/band involved.

I agree, I don't get why we stopped doing Swing March between intros and tip-off.

The students are move involved w/ the other music...have you missed the jumping up and down they do...?

Agreed, as much as I love our fight song, it is not something that really gets the students going. Right or wrong, many don't know the words and Zombie Nation (the song we jump and and down to) is a great way to get students into the game and the team pumped. I know many of the fans at BU games are older, but the intent of the line-up announcement should be to help the team out. Playing what they want to hear, and what gets the students into the game should be what we do. The people who want to hear the band all the time and don't like the quasi-rap music and such, in general, are not the fans who are going to to be loud and help the team out.

This comment may come under fire, as I know some of you 'blue-hairs' ( ;) ) do help provide a great atmosphere for our Braves, but I'm callin' it like I see it..

No problem at all...I am for whatever gets the arena loud and excited. As a current "blue hair"..I don't mind the Zombie Nation song, especially AS the players are being announced....I just like hearing swing march, not the BU fight song, as they come out of the huddle for the tip-off. I guess there is really no way to please everybody but like I say...whatever it takes to get people out of their seats and into the game!!!

GO BRAVES!

Seems to me that the "canned" music can be more intense, and gets at least the student section fired up for the beginning of the game. After that, go with the band.

This year's intro video is the best one they've had since the Sweet 16 video. I like it.

I agree. I've seen players from the opposing team watching it, so it gets their attention. The only problem I've had with it was the length of time to segue from the video to the introductions, but that appears to have been addressed during the most recent games.
