St Mary's is both ranked in the Top 25 and highest in home RPI. If it stays that way, Butler will be playing in CA.

We get this every year. 2 years ago, people SWORE up and down ESPN was going to have George Mason vs Butler, because ESPN "loved" GM. They sent #1 RPI Southern Illinois. Last year, people SWORE up and down ESPN was going to send Creighton because ESPN loves a "big name." They sent #1 RPI Drake. This year people will swear up and down that ESPN is going to set up Davidson because the LOVE Curry. They will send Butler to the best RPI.

I believe you are right. The top game is usually the top RPI teams. I went with the "attractive" matchup instead of following my belief that the top game is top RPI teams. I also didn't know St Mary's was ranked in one of the polls.

Also, for the record....

2 years ago I was calling for SIU/Butler.

Last year I was calling for St Mary's/Kent and Butler/Drake.

Wait, so the RPI matters after all? 8)

Conference leader vs. conference leader.

UNI leads the conference, therefore they get the more marquee game. Simple as that.

Obviously, there's plenty of time left and the conference lead can and probably will change. That spot vs. Siena is going to be ISU's if they take care of business. Remember, the projection is assuming that the games are selected today and have to be played in 3 weeks.

When you're talking about the top 3-4 games, you don't lean on RPI alone.

I actually really like St Mary's as a potential opponent of the Valley leader too, but the WAC may get in the way.

And ESPN exes are having wet dreams about the possibility of Butler/Davidson. One of those teams would have to completely tank in order for ESPN not to will that matchup together.

He can lean anyway he wants to. :) But I think in this instance he might be incorrect.

Siena with an RPI of 29 is going to play UNI with an RPI of 87 instead of ISU with an RPI of 50. That's a 37 spot swing in the RPI. I think not.

Same with ISU. They are going to play Niagara with an RPI of 90 instead of Siena with an RPI of 29. That's 61 spots as well.

Siena (29) vs. ISU (50)
and
Niagara (90) vs. UNI (87)

Make much more sense.

I look forward to that. :-D

Well - Making projections right now are a little early. Jumping on projections as incorrect are just as bad as the projections.

IMO, the BracketBuster by name is to help showcase teams expected to make the NCAA Bracket... and maybe bust people's bracket picks.

So pairing up Conference Leaders right now makes more sense than RPI. If UNI is in 1st place in 2 weeks, their RPI is gonna be better than what it is now... and the matchup will look better to those expecting RPI to determine matchups.

So hang in there CPac. When ISU is in 1st, they will get the top MEAC team in TAS's projections. ;-)

They aren't going to go conference leader vs. conference leader just for the sake of doing it. And I believe the history of the bracket buster proves this to be true as well.

And yes MM is still pretty early for this. I doubt TAS would use bias making his selections but when He has UNI jumping 37 spots to overtake ISU for a match-up with a#29 Siena team and in the meantime he has ISU dropping down to play #90 Niagara is the process, I think it might be a good idea to ask him his thought process.

Much like I did when Lunardi had BU in as the At-Large last week....
BU was the autobid last week. ;)

The reason I had ISU drop that far was because after Siena....who's left? The next best team was 77 Fairfield.

And they do have a history of doing conference leader vs. conference leader. I'm too lazy to pull up the old matchups but I might do it later to see who's right ;)

Ok... it's too early. But I did this for CPac. Here's my EARLY prediction:

Davidson vs Butler
Siena vs Miami (Oh)
St Mary's vs Utah St
Long Beach St vs George Mason
Creighton vs Boise St
Fairfield vs Illinois St
Niagara vs VCU
Evansville vs Cleveland St
Drexel vs UW Green Bay
Nevada vs Bradley
UW Milwaukee vs N Iowa
Drake vs Northeastern
San Diego vs Pacific
Portland St vs ND St
