Youth Basketball Camp Question

I know there are a few people that post on here that are scouts or coaches. I was looking for some input. I have a 10 year old who will be attending basketball camps this summer. I can't afford a large amount of cash. Money is tight. My options are to send him to several smaller camps at local grade schools or high schools (Don't cost that much) Or send him to one more expensive camp. Do you think he would get more out of constant practice over time at different camps. Or one really good camp that may come up with some good ideas he can practice on his own?

I am not the final answer...but I have had a lot of kids do a lot of camps...

the bigger ones are generally better...more instruction and more one-on-one help for the kids, and more chance to play against the proper level of competition.

The Jim Les camps are excellent and not too expensive especially if you commute rather than residence-camp.

I'll throw in a little input here which is similar to T's, but understand this is my personal experence which comes from quite a while ago as you will see.

I attended the Joe Stowell basketball camps and camps at a local high school when I was a kid. The instruction and experience from the Stowell camps and the atmosphere of hanging out at Bradley were far better than the high school camps. I would have to think that the same would be true of the Jim Les, Buescher, and Anderson camps. Of course when your child is older, attending the local high school camp is always a plus to get him or her known to the coaches in your area.

I've coached a few times at the Jim Les camp and its an all around good camp. The times I have coached I've coached the 8 to 10 year olds. The coaches usually do good at dividing up the teams to be equal in talent so that there are good matchups and games. The individual instruction does really good at teaching fundamentals. I think the Les camp would be an all around better choice as for as learning and atmosphere.

which camps are we talking about here? i really cant say without knowing what im telling you to go to and what not to go to

Well I was thinking of the Bradley camp, Jeremy crouch & Pederson's camp, as maybe better camps. He goes to Illini Bluffs and has gone to a short camp in the summer there a couple of times. It only cost 40.00 and I was assuming other high schools around the area may have similar camps he could go to. I haven't done any research on them.

By the way, I think he is a very good shooter for his age already (Has good form). He needs work on ballhandling, passing, and defense. He is a small player for his age who you would think would be a point guard, but is played at forward because he can shoot, but tends to turn it over a little too much to play point.
