With the win last night, was it enough to ensure that Bradley is not playing on Thursday? I'm not sure how the tiebreakers all work out and everything so I was just curious if anyone knew whether or not that win now keeps us out of Thursday.

I think it is still mathematically possible that Bradley could fall into a multiple tie for 5th place, and that they could end up with the 7th seed. Maybe someone with the tiebreaker facts can confirm.

Nope...BU clinched no worse than 6th with the win last night.

Drake and SIU play each other one more time, so there's no way that both teams could win out, which was the only way that BU could fall to the 7th seed, I believe....

That's correct!

Most likely Friday afternoon for us again.

This is not correct...all that game ensures is that BU cannot finish lower than 7th. We still can finish 7th by virtue of losing tiebreakers...especially if Drake wins out.

BU can clinch at least the number 6 seed and no Thursday if the following happens tonight...

Drake loses tonight and either SIU or Wichita State loses tonight.

I think Drake and WSU both lose tonight, so we probably clinch a top 6 finish tonight.

My bad...I had already thrown Evansville out of the mix because they play at Creighton and UNI...and they aren't likely to win either of those games...

So I was thinking that both Drake and SIU would have to win out...which is impossible.

I can't believe we're talking 'magic numbers' to stay out of the play-in round. Seriously, how far have we sank? Are we at that level now? Magic numbers are for one thing - winning championships. The only magic number that should have any relevance to this program is 3, which is the amount of wins needed to win the tournament.

Well if we don't hit the "magic number" 1 then our "magic number" 3 turns to 4 so until the tourney starts, I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for that 1 to turn to 0

The magic number of '4' isn't a magic number. No team except for BU has ever made to the semis from the play-in round, let alone the title game, let alone win the thing. If you need 4 wins to dance, then it's not happening, and not worth keeping track of. 3 is the only number that matters when it comes to winning the MVC Tournament.

Given how hot and cold the teams from the Valley have been, who is to say that maybe this year is the year that one of the teams from the play-in games get hot and end up winning it all. So yes conceivably if we don't take care of business these last couple of games, we could be looking at a "magic number" of 4 even though it isn't even a magic number because it only changes with our wins, not with everyone else's losses

Well, this is exactly why the "magic number" of 1 actually means something. If we don't first and foremost stay out of the play-in game, then we have zero chance at winning the tourney.

But I do agree, it is sad that we have a magic number to avoid banishment to the battle of the celler dwellers.

All I know is Dave Snell said on the radio last night that a win would keep us out of playing on Thursday.

Mathematically, it did not. There are still scenarios out there that could have us playing on Thursday. Practically and realistically speaking, it did.
