Tribune on the MVC tourney...

IMO No way UNI or ISU gets in unless they win the tourney. I think we beat SIU, UNI and Creighton to get the auto bid, and Creighton gets an at-large. That's a tall order, but we are capable of doing it.

The writer, John Mullins, has corrected his first line--
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-05-mvc-tournament-advancemar-web-05,0,5766318.story

It now reads:
Only once since Illinois State in 1998 has the regular-season Missouri Valley Conference champion also won the conference tournament--Drake last year. If that happens again, the MVC likely is looking at its second straight season with just one NCAA tournament team.

I brought my car in for an oil change this morning and I read the print edition of the Tribune while waiting. That gaffe unfortunately was not corrected in the print edition. So I have a feeling Mullins is experiencing more complaints today!

I'm not picking on him specifically, but I am amazed at how many times national and even local sports writers mess up their facts! This is not the first time, and it is not something that should be that difficult to get straight. They act like the Valley is a third class, low-major D1 conference which it most certainly is not. But that's what happens when everyone is fascinated by the Big Ten or Big East potentially receiving seven or eight bids this year. The rest of the country does not count!

I hope we do. I have a good feeling about this, but we need to play three good games in a row, which has not been done too much this year. But we are certainly capable of doing it.
