Shy Ely is 2nd
Adam Koch is 3rd
Osiris Eldridge (the Preseason pick) was 4th
Theron Wilson was 5th

Theron Wilson makes the first team All MVC, and he is also on the All Defensive Team. He is the only BU player honored.

LARRY BIRD MVC PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- Booker Woodfox, Creighton
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR -- Chamberlain Oguchi, Illinois State
FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR -- Kevin Dillard, Southern Illinois
DEFENSIVE MVP -- Bryan Mullins, Southern Illinois
SIXTH-MAN OF THE YEAR -- Lucas O'Rear, Northern Iowa
ARMY NATIONAL GUARD DEFENSIVE TEAM OF THE YEAR -- Northern Iowa
MOST IMPROVED TEAM CAPTAIN -- TBA (March 4)
PRAIRIE FARMS SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR -- TBA (March 5)
‘RAWLINGS’ MVC COACH OF THE YEAR -- TBA (March 5)
The league's Newcomer of the Year is Chamberlain Oguchi of Illinois State. In his first year at ISU, the senior transfer from Oregon led the Redbirds in scoring, ranking fourth in the league with his 14.8 points per game average. He was second in the league (to Woodfox) with 75 three-pointers made. Oguchi is the fourth ISU player to win Newcomer of the Year honors. Lorenzo Gordon was the last Redbird to win Newcomer of the Year honors, doing so in 2005.
The league's Freshman of the Year hails from Southern Illinois. Kevin Dillard is the league's top-scoring freshman and leads the Salukis with 12.6 points per game, which ranks 10th-best in the conference. His league-only scoring average of 13.9 points per game is best among any first-year player. He's the sixth Saluki to win the honor and one of two current SIU players to have been named Freshman of the Year (joining teammate Bryan Mullins).
Bryan Mullins of Southern Illinois highlights the league's all-Defense unit, earning the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor for the second-straight year. A Saluki has won the honor in five of the past six years. He's only the second player in league history to record 500 career assists and 250 career steals, joining Creighton’s Ryan Sears.
For the 13th-consecutive season, the league's head coaches selected a “Sixth Man Award” recipient, and this season’s honor goes to UNI's Lucas O'Rear. The honor is presented to the league's top reserve player (one who has started fewer than 25 percent of his team's games). O'Rear averaged 5.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 23 minutes while appearing in 26 games, starting one game. He's the first Panther to win the honor.
In addition to the specialty awards, the conference announced it's all-conference units (first-team, second-team and honorable mention), all-newcomer team, all-freshman team, and all-defense team -- as selected by the league coaches.

Mullins getting defensive MVP is a JOKE.

How exactly can a guy who misses half the conference games be awarded the defensive MVP of the conference? That means either the conference is that weak defensively or he won it simply off of reputation, because he didnt win it with his performance on the court.

Its reputation based. Heck, Im happy for Theron but I wouldn't even call him the best defender on his own team. To me, that's Chris Roberts. But, like the Gold Glove in baseball---the defensive awards are more based on reputation and offense than anything else.

The people voting are instructed to base their votes only on the conference games. That probably doesn't always happen that way, but it is the way it is supposed to be.

Well done, Theron!

Regarding Mullins... Heckuva player, and it's too bad he got hurt, but he has no business being defensive MVP. Particularly if only conference play is supposed to be considered.

I am surprised by a couple things.

For one, a team who is the 8th seed in the Valley tournament has 2 players on the All-Conference teams. I expected Josh Young to be on the team, and he absolutely deserves it. But Bucky Cox? I feel that reputation is the main reason he ended up there. Personally I think Josh Parker is just as deserving as Bucky.

I am surprised that SM didn't even end up as honorable mention for All Conference. I am surprised to see Dodie not make the All-Newcomer Team as well. He was such a crucial part of so many games. It seemed like whenever we needed a boost, he was the one to give it to us.

Goes to show that DD and SM are overlooked by our opposing teams.

For next year, I expect to see AW on the first team and SM on (at least) the 2nd team. I also expect to see CR on the All-Defensive team, and the wishful thinker in me hopes to see Prosser on the All-Freshman team.

And finally, I expect to see Sam Singh as the "captain" of the All-Players-Over-24-Years-Old-Team.

I hope this motivates our guys in St Louis and this of season! They now have something to prove and something to shoot for as individuals. The sweetest revenge for being over looked though is winning!:D

I am surprised that SM didn't even end up as honorable mention for All Conference. He averaged over 13 ppg during the conference season, even outscoring Osiris.

And finally, I expect to see Sam Singh as the "captain" of the All-Players-Over-24-Years-Old-Team.

According to the mvc.org stats, Sammy averaged 12.3ppg for 13th place in conference only action. Osiris was in 9th place at 13.0 ppg.

It looks like David Collins was only 4 months shy of collecting an award this year.

I'm not too thrilled that 9 of the 15 all conference selection were made by seniors. That's not a real good sign for a conference that expects to make a jump up next season.

Boogie you are right.

I did not realize that conference-only stats were available at mvc.org, so I calculated it myself. The reason I ended up wrong is I added up all of SM's scoring totals for every game starting with the first SIU game, then divided the total by 18. I was off because I added the Loyola game in these scoring totals, but shouldn't have.

Thanks for catching that for me! See you in St. Louis.
