Scheduling Question

Im sure this has been brought up before but why doesn't Bradley ever schedule non-conf. games against SLU? They seem like a similar team that would be a solid non-conference opponent that would help BU.

The previous SLU coach, Brad Soderberg, did not want to play regional schools that he considered competetion for recruits. I am not sure about Majerus, but he did schedule SIU, so maybe something can develop with Bradley?

I was wondering who is on bradley's schedule so far for next year and if we are playing in any tournaments next year?

Bradley is in the Las Vegas Invitational next year. 2 home games against some "easier" teams, then will face 2 of 3 in Las Vegas of Utah, Oklahoma St, and UIUC (but UIUC has been predetermined to be on the other side of the bracket).

alright sounds like a good start to scheduling. I wonder if we could get a team like Dayton or Xavier on the schedule or a couple of teams from quality mid major to major basketball teams

This is what it seems like to me:

HOME
Loyola
BracketBuster
Vegas Cupcake #1
Vegas Cupcake #2

NEUTRAL
Utah/Oklahoma St (Vegas)
Utah/Oklahoma St/Illinois/random fodder (Vegas)

ROAD
BYU
Iowa St?
Butler?

By my flawed math, that's 3 open spots if we stick with those potential road games. We absolutely would have to get a home game against the best available team.....try to invest in another 2-for-1 with a big school like Michigan St....and for the love of God, if I see 3 Horizon teams on the schedule, I will punch this schedule in the face.

BYU is always a team that is very competitive and should be a good team to play against next year. I agree that we do schedule way to many teams from the horizon league and think we should try to schedule teams from possibly the A-10, MWC, and WCC.

I hope we get Utah. Not only are they a good team, I'd like to get to see Marshall Henderson play. We won't get many games from them on TV and I'd like to see how a former recruit's game looks.

I thought that this was already determined and that we will be playing BYU. Anyone really know!

Considering we have the MWC/MVC challenge, the MWC is sorta taken care of.

SFP-Yes we go out to BYU in our game in the MW/MVC Challenge at the beginning of the season and then return to Vegas on Fri/Sat after Thanksgiving and play either Utah or Ok State in the first game of the Vegas tournament.

Wow, this could end up looking like a pretty good non-con...if we end up playing Ok St, Illinois, Butler, BYU, and Iowa St I would be very happy. Each could be an at-large tourney team next year as well as an RPI top 50. Iowa St has been bad the past few years, but they have most of the team back and some talent coming in (including Chris Colvin for those who remember BU going after him). And Butler loses nobody. Illinois loses some quality seniors, but have a heck of a recruiting class coming in.

If we could add just one more game along the lines of a Dayton, Xavier, Western Kentucky, etc at home we could really have a nice schedule even after the filler teams are added in...maybe we'll get a crack at Utah Valley or NJIT next year!

BYU plays in the Marriott Center, a 22,700 seat arena on the campus of BYU.They have a huge advantage at the Marriott Center over the years. Their winning percentage at home in the 38 seasons they have played there is almost 80%.

This year they are 25-6 and play in the semifinal of the MWC Tournament against San Diego State today. They are 14-2 at home this season, and 125-12 (.912 winning pct) at home over the past 9 seasons.

They have 3 players averaging 16.2 ppg or more-
Lee Cummard- 17.0 ppg - is a senior and will be gone next year. He might be drafted by the NBA.
Jonathan Tavernari- 16.2 ppg - is a 6-6 G/F from Brazil, who is a junior and will return.
Jimmer Fredette- 16.2 ppg - is a 6-2 guard who is a sophomore and will return.
BYU Stats- http://www.byucougars.com/uploads/stats/basketball_m/stats.pdf

They only lose 2 other seniors who are insignificant, and average 2.6 ppg and 2.8 ppg, so they could return around 72% of their scoring next year.
Bradley will be a huge underdog in this game.

If Brackins comes back for ISU, we have the chance to be MUCH improved. If he bolts for the NBA, we will still likely be very mediocre. We have an incoming JUCO player Marquis Gilstrap that ESPN rates as a top 30 player in the 2009 class and the second best JUCO. We also have Colvin who should add some athleticism and ball handling to our backcourt. Throw in LA Pomlee and Scott Christopherson off of redshirt seasons and the fact we only lose three players, two of which are walk ons (though one was a starter) and we have potential to be better. But it all starts with Brackins.

I say Brackins goes...he is being talked about like LaMarcus Aldridge...who went lottery and is doing great in the NBA.

the talk around is that he is already being projected as a lottery this year if he wants to go....
the NBA folks are no fools when it comes to talent plus potential.

I would not be shocked if Brackins goes or stays. He has improved a ton, but has a ton of things to improve upon as well. If he comes back, he will be the preseason Big 12 POY and with the new players ISU has coming in, he should have some help around him making him look even better. Some sites list him as a 20-30 range pick, some top 15. If he feels the top 15 is legit, he needs to go. If it is 20-30, coming back and getting into the top 10 would be worth millions. Until a month ago, none of the mock drafts had him anywhere to be found and if he does not do well at the pre-draft camps and workouts, he may well drop to the second round. Time will tell and I simply hope whatever he decides that it works out for him because he is all class.

Confirmed.....

-- Nov. 13 at Brigham Young

-- Nov. 22 and 24 home games as prelude to the Las Vegas tournament

-- Nov. 27-28 at Las Vegas against two among a field of Oklahoma State, Utah and Illinois

-- December home date against Loyola

-- Dec. 20 at Iowa State

4-5 games left to be scheduled, but I thought Butler was already scheduled as a road game for next season.

I think Butler decided against playing us next season.

That's disappointing. I'd like to play them every year. Twice a year! ;)

Would love to see a couple QUALITY home games added to the schedule.

Any idea what type of opponent we can expect for the two "Las Vegas" home games?
