Calipari accepts Kentucky Job

I still think Calipari is not leaving Memphis and is using this as leverage for more money.

Not sure I agree SFP. UK will pull out ALL stops for Calipari and "break the bank". Memphis CANNOT compete financially with UK.

I think UK basically says "how much $ do you want to leave Memphis and coach UK?" With the UK answer being "you got it!"

How much does Memphis pay Calipari?

How in the world did they get this competitive with a conference like that and a city like that. It's good but it's not great. How did it happen???

Calipari has the best recruiting class EVER coming in next year. Any coach's dream...I don't know if he can give that up.

I could definitely seen Calipari using this as leverage to get more money out of Memphis. It would fit his personality and character perfectly!

Memphis is waiting on word from one recruit that would give them the #1, 2, and 3 recruits IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!

If he can get close to the money at Memphis that UK is offering, I think he stay. A TON less pressure at Memphis and that recruiting class=all of upside to stay there. UK will put a ton of pressure on the new coach and who knows if he will be able to get any of those stud recruits to follow him or not...

Should be interesting none the less!

"** He loves Memphis but is drawn to the history and prestige of Kentucky. Calipari said it's one of five programs -- along with North Carolina, Duke, UCLA and Kansas -- any coach would have to consider."

LOL!!!

Don't think Calipari is one to worry about or be bothered by "pressure"......

No public announcement has been made yet, but sources are reporting Calipari has accepted the Kentucky job-

This source says the deal is $40 million over 6 years!

That is an insane amount of money for anyone in sports, especially a college basketball coach. These contracts are getting more ridiculous every year.

I remember when coaching salaries started to get over $200,000 per year just about a decade ago, and people started to criticize that the basketball coach was the highest paid person at the universities, earning more than any professor, and even more than the university presidents.
In many states, the head coache at the state university was becoming the highest paid public official in the state, even more than the governor. Now we are seeing some salaries up 10x and more.

$40 Million dollars? I hate to sound like a Liberal, but that sure could provide a lot of education to the disadvantaged kids in the Eastern Kentucky Appalachia area.
Just a microchosism in the mis-directed value system that exists today.
UK should be ashamed.

I understand Grassman but what is the line between fair and when a school should be ashamed?

Heck, we could all survive on less and help disadvantaged people. I don't make a lot of money but I know I could survive on less. It shouldn't be on just the insanely rich to provide and make sacrifices.

Whatever fledgling hope CUSA has of staying within shouting distance of the top mid major conferences will be gone is Calipari leaves.

There's no excuse whatsoever for the Valley not to regularly finish well ahead of CUSA in terms of RPI and number of postseason bids.

CUSA will be lucky to have more than two teams in the NCAA tournament and NIT combined!

I'm not a liberal either, but come on! That much money for a game where someone puts a ball through a hoop? Really!
