A lot of scary sounding infections are always in the news....
swine flu, bird flu, Legionnaire's Disease, Lyme Disease, West Nile Virus, etc....

but guess what single infection kills a thousand times more than all of those illnesses put together....and is the leading infectious cause of death in the world--Malaria.

Malaria statistics are hard to compile with accuracy as many of its victims live far from civilization, but perhaps as many as 2.7 million people per year die from malaria.
Here in the US it's quite rare, and we never hear about Malaria, but in almost all other regions of the world outside of the US and Europe, malaria is still pandemic.
