The Newest NCAA Academic Data

several Valley teams were singled out for their high honors and academics....
specifically Bradley's golf and women's tennis.
Creighton, Drake, UNI, and Evansville also had some teams mentioned...
I can't find where any other Valley school had more than one team noted.

This is just the highest performance info....The rest of all the data will be revealed on May 6
along with the schools whose APR (Academic Progress Rate data) will result in penalties and losses of scholarships.

the only Valley schools whose APR last year resulted in penalties were...
Indiana State (men's tennis) and SIU (outdoor men's track and indoor men's track)

Indiana, Tennessee, USC, New Mexico, Purdue, UAB, Kansas State (are you listening DSE?),
and even Liberty Univ. all lost MEN'S BASKETBALL scholarships last year due to poor academics.

The complete report on this year's academic data is due out May 6, but some schools already know the NCAA's ruling...

but at least one school has already apparently been informed they will lose at least ONE and maybe two scholarships due to poor academic performance.

It is Bruce Pearl's Tennessee Volunteers.

we will probably be hearing of more schools, but this extra penalty then it finally ends the speculation about Daniel West, which had Tennessee possibly restoring West to scholarship status, as they really need point guard help, or possibly getting yet another recruit.
But if UT loses a scholarship, it wouldn't stop Creaning from occurring....there's already rumors of one of the present players being booted...

Even more evidence that Tennessee might be losing a scholarship and will be unable to give one to Daniel West.
West is now gone from Tennessee for good......

"West's unforeseen ineligibility – the test was taken in the summer prior to his enrollment at UT -
forced Pearl to move small forward Josh Tabb to point guard and was a factor in the team's inability to press."

Hmmm...unforseen?? I think our coach forseen it coming... ;)

more on Daniel West and confirmation that Tennessee will lose a scholarship due to poor academic performance (APR)

what's even more bizarre.....that a 4 to 5-STAR kid, the #35 ranked kid nationally in his class, Phillip Jurick, is presently redshirting at Tennessee...
but if junior Tyler Smith returns (and pulls his name from the NBA draft) then there won't be a scholarship for Jurick, and he also will be gone!
That's put two talented kids (West & Jurick) back on the open market...and look who they try to lay the blame on...
"In the cases of both West and Jurick, most of the blame falls on the
individuals and their high school programs for not being ready to make the
jump into college.
Pearl liked both individuals enough that he gave both a chance to overcome
their ill-preparedness. Jurick was long in size and potential, and West was a
two-time state champion for a nationally-ranked program.
Jurick's still working hard and hoping for the best. West fell victim to
circumstance and timing, and his end at UT has come."

Jurick has landed at Chattanooga
http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2009/jul/10/jurick-officially-joins-tigers/

he will play with DeAntre Jefferson of Bloomington HS and Vincennes CC,
although despite the news release that Jefferson committed to UT-C, he has not yet been confirmed by the Chattanooga people.....might still be awaiting NCAA clearance.
Dodie's brother Brandon Dunson, also of Bloomington HS also had gone to Chattanooga, but lasted only a year and left.
