Theron just won BU's Most Outstanding Athlete of the Year..

Here is a challenge....

I am going to name several of the Valley's top frontcourt players....see if you can properly rank them
according to the career points and rebounds they have accumulated...



Theron Wilson - only played two years at BU
Drake's Jonathan Cox in his first THREE years at Drake (ps- Cox was 08-09 MVC Reb. leader and Top 10 in scoring)!
Jordan Eglseder - has played THREE years at UNI
Dinma Odiakosa - has been at ISU for four full years (redshirted one)
Tony Boyle - was at SIU for FIVE full seasons
Carlton Fay - two years at SIU
Anthony Slack (played two full seasons at ISU)
Wichita's Ramon Clemente their rebounding "machine"!

hey, here's a news tidbit I bet most won't know....

OK...so how does he fit in here???
Well, D'Angalo Jackson was a guard out of Milwaukee that was recruited and signed by Dana Altman in his 2006 incoming class.

But in his freshman year at Creighton, Jackson struggled with injury and poor play, then was suddenly gone and booted off the team at Creighton (Creaned, if you will).

Jackson then, just as suddenly, shows up at UW-Green Bay, waits a year and tries to play there, but struggles again and leaves again.

Then he finally plays at Arkansas-Ft. Smith (juco)..and is now headed to D-I, Mississippi Valley State.

I know that Mississippi Valley State is a really low D-I but you still gotta wonder how successful Jackson is going to be when at junior college, he still was able to mount averages of only 5.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 2 apg, and 32% 3-pt shooting.
I guess this is proof that even Dana Altman must sometimes miss by a mile when judging recruits!!

OK...so how is he relevant to this discussion??

Well, D'Angalo Jackson is the kid who was booted from Creighton in order to free up a scholarship so Dana Altman could land P'Allen Stinnett!!
So in effect, Creighton fans can thank D'Angalo for giving up his ride for their superstar!

Now the news is being reported that one of Dana Altman's new recruits this year, D'Angalo Jackson has apparently left school.
..this seems to answer the question of where Altman was going to get that extra scholarship to give to Stinnett.

I would not put Carlton Fay into the discussion. We will have to see how he performs his junior and senior year first. I believe he has a chance to put up similar numbers as TW in a system that just does not allow you to score as much. Rebounding is another discussion all together. TW was a monster on the boards for us. I really hope and I believe our 4 position will be as productive with TB and JP though.

I agree...Fay is an enigma....he was certainly primed for a big season...
and played a ton, putting up decent numbers...

But by the end of the season, his production fell off a bit...
maybe he was hurt and it was never made public....
In the end he shot only 42% from the field, and only 31% from beyond the arc.
He needed nearly 30% more shot attempts to put up almost the same scoring average as Tony Boyle, who was a much bigger factor, certainly against us in the Valley Tourney, and down the stretch...

Fay was the team's leading scorer in each of their first 3 games, and in 5 of their first 9.
But he wasn't the team's leader at any time in the final 10 games, and only ONCE in the last 22 games of the season.
And considering how many minutes Carlton played, he doesn't appear anywhere in even the top 21 rebounders in the Valley, and was a far distant 30th in scoring in Valley play.
He does need to step up in 2010....

I love the stats on Wilson. He was an outstanding player with a lot of heart and hustle to go with those. In fairness to an overall view, how does he match up for turnovers?
