Just curious what people think....and here's the question...

I DON'T really want to know what you think of Tyler Hansbrough, but answer this...
Why do bloggers and people who write internet opinions dis and attack the kid so much?
What is the issue and what do they have against him? All he's done is stay 4 years and graduate from college and lead his team to one of the best 4-year runs in NCAA history!

he has remained all but silent, rarely ever speaks out and has really never said an unkind word until quite recently when he questioned some bloggers for being unfair...

Here are just a couple examples...

Ill bite.

He is a successful white baseketball player. People tend to be much more skeptical of the athletic ability of white players. Actually I think people are more skeptical of white players overall regardless of athletic ability.

The bad stuff is just a response to all the marketing done by a certain sports media hegemony.

When people on said network say moronic things like "He's the best player in the history of the ACC," there is going to be some pushback.

UNC was 124-22 in TH's four years, playing a fairly tough schedule.
I know he didn't do it all alone, but he played a part. I would liken the kid to Glen Davis.....undersized and given little chance by the pundits of having as successful of a pro career as he did in college.

Why would they be skeptical of TH's ability? He has done all he has done while playing against mostly black atheletes and they are believed to have more ability. And why would they be skeptical of white players regardless of their ability?

I don't mind him. I work with a guy that hates him and he says he travels every play.

Now on a different note. I don't see him being much better than a sixth man in the NBA and maybe worse. He is to small to be a good power forward in the pros and not good enough at many other things to play the 3. I wouldn't mind the Bulls getting him with the second pick they have, but that is only because all the other players are nothing special either. He was a great College player, but I don't see a great NBA player there.

Find me a white basketball player who does not have skeptics, especially when it comes to "athletic ability" JJ Reddick did all his work against nearly all black players and did he have any skeptics? Lets go back to Larry Bird, did he not also have lots of skeptics, he cant run, he cant jump etc

A white guy who plays basketball is going to be put more under the "athletic ability" microscope then nearly any other color.

Tornado asked the question and I sincerely believe if Hansbourgh were not white he would be considered a higher pick and more of an NBA talent. My two cents, but find me a white guy who has not had skeptics regarding his athletic ability.

Why would anyone be skeptical of someone who is playing against others who are supposed to have more ability and he is outperforming them? The proof is in the pudding and maybe some don't like that. Larry Bird had his skeptics? If you were around when he was playing, and I don't know if you were, you should realize what a ridiculous statement that is.

Larry Bird had his skeptics?...

no, there weren't many Larry Bird skeptics...but there were some...
both Isiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman are attributed to have said..

"If Larry Bird were Black he'd be just an average player"

What did you expect those 2 to say? Average players, white or black, don't do the things he
did. Guess I should clarify that in this day and age I can see some being skeptical of a white kid at first. But after they see what he can do against all competition, like TH did, that's where it should end.

And there is should end. But it doesnt, I truely believe that a guy like Hansbourgh gets disrespected and attacked so much because he is a white basketball player. I dont care who he did all of his scoring against, how much success he had or anything he still gets the he is undersized, he is slow, he cant jump, he doesnt shoot well because people do not ever respect the skills of a post/4 type of player who is white.

Man people were and are critical of Kevin Love, even though he rebounds and can score from anywhere. Go back to Christian Laettner, the guy was just about the most successful college player of all time, but it is never said he was a solid decent NBA player, it is said he was a bust as an NBA player. Do people often say that Grant Hill was/is a bust as an NBA player even though he has been hurt and never has lived up to his billings coming out of college?

I guess no one ever said about Bird, he is to slow, cant jump, wont be able to rebound in the NBA... Im sure everyone always said he was very quick and would never have difficulties rebounding. Birds athletic ability was always being challenged.

No one ever denied his shooting or ability to pass or see the court but his "athletic abilities" were oftened questioned.

TH has the work ethic, desire and motor to become a pretty good NBA player. One thing he is not lacking is heart and that to me is the number one ingredient needed to be an NBA player that makes it for more then their initial contract. Did you ever see him take a play off. He is a bit undersized to play the 4 and not quick enough to play the 3 but I bet you when his career is done he'll have put up decent offensive numbers and a few times in his career been in the top 10 in rebounding.

That's why I clarified being skeptical at first, but once he proved he was argubly one of the best NBA players of his time, that's when being skeptical should have, and did, stop among real basketball fans.

I won't go with any of the white or black stuff but I think he struggled a bit in the tournament if memory serves me right. He'll do just fine in the draft and may do well in the NBA if he lands in the right situation.

I love Hansbrough and (like most draft picks) he can be a successful NBA player if picked by the right team.

The difference between Larry Bird's success and today's white players is in the NBA style and rules. Unfortunately, today's NBA rules have been tailored to street-ball style basketball which favors a certain style of player. I doubt if Bird would have been as successful under this style and these rules. The NBA is now a league that rewards flash, flair and poor fundamentals. That is why players like Hansbrough, Laettner, Love and others have a hard time. The most successful white players are often the ones that grew up playing this style of bal, IMO.
