Can this Mascot Thing Get Any Sillier?

The College of William and Mary is looking for a new mascot and logo...
as most of you know, their previous ones for almost a century were and are deemed too offensive for the NCAA and apparently other people of like minds, and so they are being forced to come up with a new one...

One of the notable nominations is asparagus!
That's right, a stalk of asparagus....Really a great American mascot, right?
Here is what they say...
"The asparagus stalk supporter notes that if served with cheese, the vegetable represents the school colors."

Well maybe the powers that be at William and Mary will figure out that a stalk of asparagus for a mascot could be shortened to just "stalker" and... well..... back to the politically correct mascot drawing board.;-)

Ah...if only the BU student body had pushed a bit harder back in the mid-90s. We were told that the Fighting Squirrel was one of the finalists. Of course the, uh, Bobcat ended up coming out the winner. I think the campus squirrels are still ticked.

Fighting Squirrels football--that would have been the start of something really big!
