I think it can be argued that ISU & BU have the best freshman classes, with four kids under 700,
but every team in the Valley except UNI has at least ONE kid who is Top 500, and most have multiple...
(these rankings, of course, do not include jucos, 5th year prep schoolers, and transfers)
ISU's Jackie Carmichael & SIU's Eugene Teague are listed on the ranking of 5th year seniors, but it is a far less inclusive list..and has very few notable players

nope, all have their flaws and detractors....

scout.com says this about hoopscoop:
"players and coaches alike also turn to HoopScooponline and Clark Francis, who is considered an authority in his own right"
http://mississippi.scout.com/2/588674.html
http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2006/nov/23/national-basketball-camp-be-held-january-baylor/

and their rankings get quoted an awful lot...
as far a sheer data and facts on recruits, nobody even comes close to what Clark Francis offers, and his info is more first hand than anyone's.

According to "THIS" rater the only nonbcs programs to have impressive freshmen are UNLV with # 41, 83, 170, & 599, and george Mason with #139, 187, 264, & 352. Overall the MVC is very impressive according to this rater. I don't know much about any of the raters, but hoopscoop works for me.

The MVC does pretty well in recruiting real amateur players. Teams like Kentucky and Kansas should have asterisks next to their recruits as paid recruits. There are a few coaches out there that do play by the rules and are among the top schools year in and year out. You can tell who they are by the character of the team and individuals on those teams. I would bet my house that Tom Izzo plays by the book and so does Mike Krzyzewski.

There are schools that should ask themselves if their banner is clean.

the ranking I had used for this post was from several month ago...and guess what, they just posted their completely NEW Class of 2009 rankings!!

So, I redid the entire recruit assessment for the Valley using the new numbers...

ps-- note how every single one of the BU recruits dropped after signing with BU!..but then so did just about every single recruit in the Valley, while many if not MOST BCS recruits moved up.
Also - kids who have dropped off the radar screen like Brian Conway who has serious legal issues and isn't even playing ball that I can find...are all still ranked a bit below where they were last fall.
(only 5 of the top 100 rated kids are pledged to non-BCS)

Bradley: Jordan Prosser 307, Dyricus Simms-Edwards 395, Milos Knezevic 555, Jake Eastman 644.
Creighton: Andrew Bock 255, Ethan Wragge 676
Drake: Ben Simons 350, Reece Uhlenhopp 379, Seth Van Deest 652, David Smith 753, Aaron Hawley (no longer ranked in Top 1000), Frank Wiseler not ranked
Evansville: Colt Ryan 331, Derek Johnson 749, Troy Taylor not ranked, Ned Cox not ranked, Lewis Jones not ranked
ILSU: Justin Clark 216, Jon Ekey 390, Zeke Upshaw 455, Terry Johnson 599
INSU: RJ Mahurin 458, Eitel brothers - neither are ranked
MSU: Lane Adams 391 (maybe not coming to MSU), Keith Pickens 634, Michael Porter not ranked, Jerome Jones not ranked
SIU: Kendal Brown-Surles 214, Drew Barham 434, Jordan Myers 597

WSU: Kenny Manigault 485, Jerome Hamilton 546

PS-- Note that the kid they have at #749 and the kid they have at #1000 are the same exact kid, so those are duplicate rankings.
also..The highest rated Illinois kid is #45 (although DJ Richardson is #38 ), Marcus Jordan is #143, Darius Smith #160, Putnam Co.'s Anthony Ahlers is #952,
