Bradley to take trip to Brazil in August

I remember Marcel, he was 6'8" and a very good bb player for Coach Stowell and I am hoping Coach can make the trip for a possible reunion. Can't remember how we got him or how many years we had him though.

The story I remember is that Coach Stowell had travelled to Brazil a year or 2 before Marcel came to Bradley, to teach at a basketball clinic. Somehow, through the connections he made in Brazil, he became aware of Marcel and offered a scholarship to play at Bradley. Marcel stayed at Bradley only 1 year.

I'm still dumb founded by the resistance for these guys to travel a bit. There is more to life then basketball and if these guys have the chance to travel under watchful eyes and play a little ball why is there such an Igor like premonition? I wish I had nothing but time and money to travel where my heart desired and Brazil would be one of those places! This will be a great learning experience and hopefully it will be well worth the effort. I thought my mother was cautious.:?

I plead guilty to being a worrywart, that's just my nature, but it doesn't stop me from traveling. I've traveled to many interesting places, once the travel starts I forget about worrying. I'm sure they are going to have a great time. But I'll say it again, why go play basketball in Brazil when you can play it within walking distance. To me, it just doesn't seem necessary. There will be pleanty of time for travel during the pre-season and conference season and NCAA Tournament:)

I dont think it really is that much about basketball, its about bonding, exploring this world, and having an opportunity to meet new people from a completely different culture. I want us to play good competition but it is probably more important for this team to grow as young men and come together as a group.

BU Rick I respect your statements completely and I understand where you are coming from. Part of me would like to put a bubble around these guys also so we do not have to spend another year of saying if so and so did not get injured then..... but as Houston just said, this has to do more then just basketball. Let's just all hope that our guys have a great trip and that the summer workout program goes as planned.

Also, does anyone know who they will be playing. I bet it will be teams from their professional league. Bradleyfans should sponsor a corespondent for daily updates, pictures and special reports on Brazilian night life. I'd be willing to do that and even arrive before the team!:-P

Sorry SFP, nothing personal but I vote to send Beni as he lost a girl friend years and years ago on those Brazilian beaches. He could go early to search for her on the beaches. Think of the pictures he could send us back. If he did find her we would not require him to post her picture. Because after all these years and her age now she's probaby a piece of leather and her once pride enjoys probaby hang so far down that when she walks they drag in the sand making tracks that look like some
prehistoric sea monster:-o
This is beginning to look like a long. long summer:biggrin:

That visual just made me throat up in my mouth:(

Thanks OoB.

wow...What a start to the morning!:-o:lol: OOB, I'll take one for the Bradleyfans team and volunteer to go to Brazil. --and I will take beach pictures-- If I do run into or more likely away from, Sandy the Sea Monster, I'll try to take a couple of pictures just for you. My other pictures would resemble Braves4life's avatars.;-)
Now back to work!

I have heard confirmation that Will Egolf and Andrew Warren will not play in the games on the Brazil trip. I have not heard whether they will make the trip, but because of the expense, there is good chance they will not.
Also, as previously noted, the 4 incoming freshmen will not be making the trip. That's 6 scholarship players who will not participate.
The other 7 scholarship players- Sam Singh, Sam Maniscalco, Dodie Dunson, Chris Roberts, Eddren McCain, Anthony Thompson, and Taylor Brown will be joined by Ryan Phillips and maybe one or both of the other walkons (Ned Goertzen and James Robertson).
There is still no word on what teams the Braves will be playing.

So if we're going with only 7 scholarship players and leaving 6 at home wouldn't it be better to just stay at home and let them have some unofficial practices together. We've got some great summer weather going on. Why not stay home and enjoy it.

You haven't heard, Benni has agreed go, suit up and play if needed. In exchange for a little time off to search the nursing homes for his old love:-P

So if we're going with only 7 scholarship players ....

but the 7 we are going with...Sam M., Sam S., Chris R., Dodie D., AT, Eddren, & TB....account for 98.7% of the returning minutes that we have.
So you don't think the trip could benefit them?? Don't you think if they account for nearly 100% of our returning minutes,
that they are going to be the guys who are playing the enormous majority of the minutes to start the season?

The only guys who could be projected to play any minutes other than the these are Warren & Egolf (who simply cannot play due to injuries,
so it's clearly in everyone's best interests that they don't play) and the freshmen (who cannot go due to NCAA rules).
So how is this different from any other team that takes a summer tour, or any other tour that BU could take anytime, any year,
to anywhere in the world?

Here is how I see the players who will be available to play on the Brazil trip, by position-

5- Sam Singh and Anthony Thompson- AT should get plenty of playing time
4- Taylor Brown
3- Chris Roberts, Dodie Dunson
2- Sam Maniscalco, Dodie Dunson
1- Eddren McCain, and Sam M.

Walkons could fill in a little at the guard spots and Ryan Phillips can play a little at the 3 or 4, but it looks like Bradley will be playing a smaller lineup, and the 7 available players should get plenty of playing time with the limited roster.
