Patrick O'Bryant in NBA Summer League

Patrick O'Bryant is playing with the Raptors in the Las Vegas NBA summer League....and is their starting center!
In his first game last night he played 3 min., scored 15 had 5 rebs, in the Raptors' 1 pt loss....as the Raptors didn't have anyone on the wing with the loss of AP, and Adam Morrison went off for 24.
POB was 7-9 from the floor and 1-1 from the line, he had a blocked shot and one turnover and only 2 fouls!

Isn't the NBA Summer League somewhat like the NBADL. Even if AP was still with the Raptors I don't think he'd be playing in the Summer League. The smart teams want their best players to take the Summer off, go back to their homes, relax, play some golf and heal their wounds. If you're a top player you know how to work-out on your own and not be forced to play in a Summer League.

it's for the rookies and subs to try to develop and/or improve their stock...
the established players and starters don't generally play unless they are rehabbing, as they have nothing to gain and could get hurt, show poorly, or lose ground if something negative happens.

It is a chance to play...something he hasn't gotten much of anywhere else...
so you'd suggest he stay home and hope he gets more playing time next year without doing something to prove he's getting better?

Today POB helped a pretty weak Raptors summer league team nearly beat the Pistons...
POB had 10 pts, 10 rebs...and he's getting over 30 mpg...I think he's making the right choice to play and develop.
Patrick was even 1-1 from 3-pt today!! How about that!!
presently POB is averaging 12.5 ppg, 8 rpg

other guys like Smush Parker (28 years old) and Adam Morrison (25 years old) are playing as well........so is Shaun Livingston.

POB is still a young man who is still filling out. It takes bigs a bit more time to fill out and reach their potential. It is good to see him out there trying to improve his game regardless.

Well said Mac! :)

I find it really odd (and sad) that that attitude and optimism isn't shared by ALL BU fans

Facing the facts doesn't mean I don't share that atttitude. You can name all the other players you want who are playing in these Summer leagues. I'm sure they all have reasons. Shaun L obviously is coming back from a serious injury. Morrison was a good college player, but I have no idea what his stats are during his time in the NBA. I hope this league helps POB make an NBA roster and he contributes, but just telling it like it is, and I know that's wrong nowdays, POB hasn't progressed very far in the NBA or he wouldn't still be playing in the these Summer leagues.

another decent game for POB...
27 min, 4-9, 6 rebs, 8 pts, 2 blks
helped his team to a win to go 2-2 in the summer league.

In four summer league games POB is averaging 11.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2 blks, and only 1.7 TO
also- for the 2nd straight game Bryan Mullins DNP...injured??

playing for the Knicks, Blake Ahearn had 10 pts in 16 min..

in the late games last night of the Las Vegas Summer League

--Rockets 87 - Blazers 82
ex-Indiana State David Moss got a starting opportunity and played 25 minutes, but did not capitalize.
He went 1-9, just 4 pts.
Chase Budinger another nice game, leading the Rockets with 17 on 6-8.

--Nuggets 77 - Wizards 70
Ty Lawson had a bad game, only 1-8

--the D-League team beat the Kings 105-89
ex-UIC Othyus Jeffers had 21 pts, 7 reb.

POB's Raptors play again tonight

today's summer games are started and POB has his Raptors ahead 53-50 in the 3th quarter in a low scoring game.
At half Patrick had 8 pts/5 reb, was 4-4 from the floor and had 3 steals!

Go Patrick...make some noise...you could be the starting center on the Raptors

for the Bucks, Brandon Jennings has 6 turnovers at half!
