Nice Article on Patrick O'Bryant

Sometimes it takes awhile for the "light to go on". POB is still a very young guy and definately has had time on his side. I think he now finally realizes that "this is it". This may be his last chance. I think, if he has spent the summer getting his legs and lungs in shape, that he will make enough of an impact this year to get a new contract somewhere and continue his NBA career. If it's "the same old POB" then he'll probably be playing overseas next year...... And there's nothing wrong with that.

B4L, can I borrow a pair of jeans, I just hit a waterbuffalo...

Umm I'm going to back up that writer. Most "young" people DON'T know where Bradley is or really anything about it.

I didn't hear about Bradley until my senior year in high school and it was because my mom printed some stuff out at work about Bradley suggesting I should check it out.

I've already said this story recently, but over the summer I told some people where I went to school and they had never heard of BU before...and they didn't know exactly where Peoria was.

Time to open your eyes and face reality. Bradley IS little known to the "young" people. Which (no offense) is more important than older people knowing about Bradley, because they are the ones going to college and, if able, playing sports.

Not morons...it's the norm. Better get used to it unless we start going to the sweet 16 every year and become Duke or something.

I listed a dozen or so schools a while ago and most people couldn't name the city (and in some cases, the state) where the school was located...
schools like Lamar, Longwood, Howard, Furman, Bethune Cookman, Bucknell, Wagner, Marist, Canisius, Troy -- even Rutgers, Cornell, Duquesne, Siena, Brigham Young...

I think BU is in the same category...most people outside of Central IL would have trouble finding Bradley on a map.

That's why I think we face a more difficult initial recruiting hurdle than most other MVC schools.
Once we can get a kid to listen and visit, we have shot...but a lot don't want to even initially consider...
I believe even John Calipari wouldn't get 4 or 5-Star kids to come to Peoria.

Wasn't knocking the guy, just said he must be a youngster.

I don't get the self-depreciating humor, at least I hope it's humor, regarding Bradley and Peoria. Hasn't the state HS championship games been played in Peoria on the Bradley court for years, you're out of touch, every time up and down the court you see Bradley. You don't think people outside of Central Illinois know where Bradley is, give me a break, I grew up in the Chicago Area and knew where Bradley and Peoria were when I was in grade school/high school in the 50's and 60's. Give up 'the poor is me' thing already, it's getting old.

Once again....keyword being 50's and 60's.

Peoria isn't what it once was..especially to the young population.

And Chico I know you didnt mean to attack anyone and B4L is right..my post was more directed towards the "moron" comment. I know no one is attacking anyone, and neither am I. I'm just backing up the writer because that's the truth now...Bradley is little known. I've lived 2 hours away from BU my whole life and only heard about it for the first time a few months before I had to decide which college I was going to....and the majority of my friends didn't know (and some still dont know) where Peoria and Bradley are. None of them had heard of it before me.

Illinois baskeball players should know though because of the whole state tournament stuff but other than that....

Not to many people outside of Illinois know where BU is! If you run into someone from Chicago there is a much greater chance and the response is,"I had a friend who went there," Sometimes you do hear,"They were in the NCAA a few years ago!" but have no idea where it is at. That is just a fact. Peoria on the other hand is better well known due to Caterpillar or that old saying about playing in Peoria.

I went to high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa... just graduated BU... even though it's less than 3 hours away, no one there knows about Bradley. Or Peoria.

Maybe they occasionally recognize the name now, and then remember they know it when you mention the Sweet 16 run.

Unfortunately, Bradley and Peoria are NOT household names any longer. Hence why ESPN thinks we're in Indiana ;)

IMO, a real basketball fan, unless he is a "youngster", knows about Bradley. Check where they rank in all time wins. The majority of the teams you mentioned don't come close.

Chico...of course we think that way, but if you ever travel east of the Alleghenies or west of the Rockies, and if you wear Bradley gear, I will guarantee you'll be asked "where is Bradley".

I would definately agree with that statement Chico. Unfortunately, there are not that many "real" basketball fans. Most are "bandwagon" fans, bred by ESPN:(

I am positive I would be familiar with it

I am positive I would be familiar with it

I have no doubt that when I was a Senior in high school I would have been very familiar with Bradley. Now if I didn't live around here I may have had no idea where it was. Being a sports nut, it is not that unknown of a school. I am 46, but following basketball Bradley would have been a school I knew the name of. They have been in some tourney most years. I would say they would be more well known than many schools that have played in the NCAA tourney.

I'm glad I didn't grow up in the computer age. When in high school, when the oldest of four of us, that played 2 on 2 365 even if it meant shoveling a foot of snow, got his drivers licence the first thing we did is head off to Comiskey Park. I can't imagine what it would have been like to grow up playing with a computer and not playing sports. I basically know where all the small to mid-size cities and villages are in Illinois and some surrounding states. I even know where Peoria, AZ is - been there. Been almost everywhere. I can't imagine growing up 2 hours away from Peoria,IL and not knowing there is a major university there. I can't imagine growing up in Iowa and not knowing about Peoria, IL. I didn't grow up in Iowa but have been to Des Moines and know there is a major university there, been to Storm Lake too, how about Waterloo, ever hear of Jewell, Iowa. I think I heard or read somewhere and it can't be true, I hope not, that something like 30-40% of American grade school/high school kids can't point to the USA on a globe.

I know our students are dumb and our schools have failed, and the family unit has fallen apart which, in my opinion, is the root of most of what is wrong BUT.......... THIS CAN'T BE TRUE! . Say it ain't so Joe!
