Diamond Taylor

I would take the risk also

I would take the risk also

I don't know his background, but if he had no troubles before this I also would be willing to give a one time second chance. He may be just what he looks like in Madison or maybe he made one mistake.
Unfortunately a school with a good reputation for players staying out of trouble would be the place to go. SIU doesn't appear to be that school right now. I hope for his sake he learned his lesson.

back on Sept 23 Paul Klee predicted Taylor was going to end up at SIU...long before anyone at salukitalk had a clue
and Bradley fans had discussions as to that possibility as much as almost a week earlier...
hmm...given the context of all the troubled kids that were brought into Binghamton and how it caused that whole program to implode...some were wondering if SIU would dare take that chance...

Recall, when asked by the police why he did the breaking and entering and burglary....Taylor blamed it all on getting drunk and making bad decisions...

Lowery must have immediately said... "that's our guy!"

The Salukis are a bit like the Island of Misfit Toys, aren't they? :)

Haha just dawned on me that Diamond graduated from my old high school. Yet another Bolingbrook athlete that doesn't pan out in college.

I can see the newspaper catch phrases now..."SIUC gets a 'Diamond' in the rough"...rough of course referring to....well you know.

or if Taylor D. had been at SIU a couple years ago and BU had won on a charging call...
"BU wins on Diamond into Ruff"

I for one hope he has learned his lesson and does not see that just because he has a talent he can do whatever he wants. The Wisc. situation should be a huge wake up call. I'm also glad that BU passes on these types of players. I'm all for giving a guy an opportunity but they need to earn it and maintain it. Ou society is way to much into giving people the sense of entitlements. This needs to be stopped!

High risk-high reward??? I know where you are coming from LC, but my thinking here is that SIU already has another player with legal problems. As things stand now,by taking a shot on Taylor, they are in reality taking a shot on 2 players with legal problems which could hurt the team when all is said and done.

Ben or they both could blow up in their face and who knows what type of precedent they are setting. They are going down a slippery slope for the sake of winning. One could be excusable but two players just reeks of desperation. For the sake of those young guys I hope I'm wrong and that Lowry can pull them back to being productive citizens. John Thompson use to do just that but he also ruled the program with an iron fist. Today kids, are getting coddled in HS, and believe they are above it all and they deserve respect instead of earning it. Only time will tell.

The one interview I saw of the kid he appeared to be nice, polite and well-spoken. I'm sure SIU took that into consideration. Plus, I'm sure it's a lot less convenient and desirable for any of his friends to wander on down to Carbondale. It's not the most friendly place for "outsiders" to venture into after dark.

Funny the first thread on Salukitalk regarding Taylor enrolling at SIU dates back to September 7th. Perhaps Klee gets his "inside" info on SIU from Salukitalk as well. Come on T, we know you read our board. It's okay to get a little dirty with Salukitalk from time to time.

And as far as Taylor goes, i'm not thrilled about this move. He's got a lot of talent and if he keeps his act together he could be a "steal" for my Dawgs. That stated, he could potentially be a distraction and throw a wrench into team chemistry. Hopefully he'll be a model citizen at SIU and in 5 years we'll have mostly forgotten about this.

Rolan Roberts turned out to be a positive for SIU, and that could happen with Taylor.

Most articles and quotes say he will sit out this year and be eligible for next season and for a total of 4 full years. Can someone explain how this is possible? According to NCAA transfer rules, if a player transfers after the enrollment period at the start of the 1st semester, then he is considered a mid-year transfer, and will not be eligible until the semester break of the following year. That also means Taylor will lose 1 semester of eligibility and only have 3 1/2 years to play at SIU.
