I posted a similar question a while back on an existing thread that was somewhat related, but I really did not get informative responses. Two questions:

  1. How many years left on Jim's contract?
  2. How much is the contract for--especially direct compensation from the University, but also any side deals like the radio show, etc.?

There's not much out there on this because we are a private institution. Why would anyone give out that information out unless they had to by law.

I don't know, but I don't think he is near the end of his contract. And I don't think there is any chance Bradley will be looking to change coaches this year, or any time soon.

As any fan, former alumn, and contributor with any sense of interest, I think it is a legitimate question. By the way, I am a member of the military industrial complex, so maybe I am formenting a conspiracy ;-)

We are way past conspiracy here my friend. The MIC is striving and well situated within our government along with other special interests.;)

The rumor I heard from several different sources was the extension signed after 2007 was 7 years at 750K/per.

Obviously that is incredibly steep and right on the heels of the Sweet 16 and NCAA snub.

I have no links or ability to back that up. Just what it was purported to be.

If true, for example, any buyout this year would likely be in the neighborhood of $3 million.

I'm confused by this whole thread. Buyout? What the ___ are you talking about.

LC it's the usual drive by shooters trying to rattle us with their negativity. We just need to learn how to ignore them until they make sense or better yet come clean with their intentions or circumstance.

Jim Les will be the coach at BU unless -

1. He decides he doesn't want to be anymore
2. We become a perennial play-in team
3. President Glasser truly loses her mind

I don't see Jim leaving on his own accord anytime soon.

I don't see us becoming a perennial play-in team.

There may be a near-mutiny on her hands if she ousted the coach. While he may not be a personal favorite among his other university employees from time to time, from what I hear Glasser makes him look like the most popular guy on campus.

So while I think we all kind of wonder what the contract situation is, I think we should just accept the reality that BU would likely never disclose the details of such a thing, and that Jim Les isn't going anywhere. As long as we keep winning I am fine with both.

Actually the top 5 paid positions at not for profits are listed on the institutions 990. If you have the inclination you can find it.

Generally coaches can make double what they earn from the schools running camps, endorsements, paid speaking engagements and TV/radio deals. I'm sure JL is no dummy and is creating a nice nest egg for him and his family. That is the American way?:-o

FYI-the document currently linked on the Controller's site is for FY2007, which would have included year 5 of JL's initial 5 year contract. His salary in FY2008 may have been different as it would have been year one of his extension taking effect.

Well what are you waiting for? Go find it and report it!

It does not have to be posted at this time. These things typically run a year late. An excellent site is guidestar.com. It is a free site. All you have to do is register. Some of the local not for profit folks do quite well.

Drive by? I already responed--absolutely nothing is wrong with wanting to know how much our coach is getting paid. My question regarding this before received limited information, and it appears to be some "state secret." My opinion of Jim's performance is separate from wanting to know this. I would think nothing is wrong with interested fans like me, who are alumns and support the University, knowing how much one of the highest-profile employees is making. So what if it is a "private" institution--which from a legal and open accountability standard is not as cut and dry as the term would seem to apply.

But all that being said, I just at the least wanted a semi-accurate or ballpark figure. In asking in this forum, I would think it would be a good source to learn the information, as well as to make it public. I have no bizarre, hidden agenda.

Do you think it is possible that Les earns more than the Prez (in base comp)? I don't. Unless Glasser got a significant raise I'm guessing Les is still slightly behind her in base pay. In fact, many universities make it a policy that their President is the highest paid employee. Now, that's not to say that JL's total "package" isn't in the $750K range. I have no doubt that it probably is.

This topic just got more relevant. Anyone have new info on this? If he signed a 5 year deal after the NCAA year, then he would only have 1 year after this year.

don't be so sure about that. New AD, and growing sentiment that Jim's not the guy to lead us to next level...especially among big money boosters.
