John Wilkins- for anyone planning a trip to see him play

here's yet another travesty of justice...Renardo Sydney who was even spurned by USC because of all the impermissible benefits and freebies he's been getitng...is still likely to get cleared to play at Mississippi State.
Do you think he'd ever get cleared had he come to Bradley! Ha...don't even think about it!!
http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/10316528/Mississippi-State's-Sidney-could-be-cleared-soon

The kid's unemployed family lived in a $1.2 million house in southern Cal...
yeah....right....

Cody Ellis from Australia had signed to play at SLU and is being held up by the NCAA. Supposedly there is an issue with a pass/fail class instead of a regular A-F system.

Of course John Wall gets cleared way in time for the season, but it takes forever and a day for guys like Wilkins, Ellis, etc. to get cleared.

"Adams said the building NCAA officials moved into in 1999 was set up for 350 employees. The governing body now has about 500 employees including a 70-person eligibility center that has been using the NCAA's offsite warehouse for office space.

The project is expected to begin early next year."

The eligibility center has been using a warehouse...how nice.

The eligibility center has been using a warehouse...how nice.[/QUOTE]

The NCAA center used to invesigate and enforce NCAA rules on BCS schools must be in an igloo in the middle of nowhere, because that part of the NCAA is virtually non existant. SEMO probably has a NCAA office on their campus with likely a drive up window.

The NCAA is a complete and utter joke. You watch if Wilkins signs something will come up or happen to stop his enrollment at Bradley.

A few questions I have...as I am not clear on all of the NCAA rules...

Can Wilkins actually sign a LOI with BU during next week's signing period? Does he merely need to be "on track" to complete his degree this year in order to be eligible to sign a LOI...or does he actually need to have his two year degree in hand before he can sign a LOI with a 4 year school...?

Also, it has been indicated that he would only have three years of eligibility if he signs with BU...what is the rule here that makes him lose a year of eligibility if he never plays a game at his JUCO? Taylor Brown was enrolled at a JUCO, was injured and didn't play a game there (I think that's right), but he came to BU with 4 years of eligibility...what makes Wilkins' case different?

Just wondering if someone knows the NCAA guidelines that come into play on both of these areas...

ER3.......what Juco has a degree in hand when they sign a LOI? I doubt any do, so I would think the on track would be the guide....but that is just a common sense guess on my part...cause I don't really know....

FREE JOHN WILKINS!

yes he can sign as long as he's on track to get his degree next spring, and it appears the coach confirms he is...

his NCAA clock started when he enrolled for spring semester at juco so he has 5 years for 4 seasons of althletic eligibility...
so he has 3 years for sure (he might miss this season, but he could play 2010-2011, 2011-2012, and 2012-2013)...but it is remotely possible that he'd have until spring of 2014 before his 5-year clock expires (remember, he already used the spring semester of 2009 and now he'll use up the whole 2002-2010 season at juco), so just maybe he would even be eligible for some games in the 2014-2015 season...so he might get 3.5 years....
depends on a few things...

Taylor Brown - had he spent 1.5 years at juco would NOT have come to BU with 4 full years left...just easy math...

Southeastern won last night 91-52 over Spoon River
Paris Gulley had an impressive debut and made believers of a few Iowans who did not know him...
Paris was 6-8 and scored 14, but even the starters only played limited minutes as the coach used everyone who was dressed and all but one of the players dressed scored.

Abby Ruple 4-6 1-2 9
A.D. Simmons 1-6 0-0 2 - 4 asst
Steve Baker 5-9 1-1 12
Mansa Habeeb 1-2 4-6 6
Norvell Arnold 7-9 1-2 16 - 4 asst
Mason Leggett 0-0 3-4 3
Paris Gulley 6-8 0-0 14 - 2-2 on
Taj Baker 0-2 0-1 0
Michael Luby 1-2 0-0 2
Jeron Lee 7-11 2-3 19 - 9 rebs
Rinaldo Mafra 3-7 2-4 8 - 9 rebs

also- Indian Hills beat Carl Sandburg 91-51
For INDIAN HILLS:
Aaron Austin 11
Brandon Garrett 11
Bruno Ferreira 3
Chano Rashiduddin 6
Derrick Hill 12
Dijon Farr 15
Larry Stone 20
Alex Vouyoukas 4
Chad Dillard 7
Erik Eckhardt 2

Thanks...that all makes sense...I knew of the "5 to complete 4" rule, but I had forgotten that Wilkins enrolled last spring and that his clock already started before the 2009-2010 season...

I never thought that the NCAA could be bested when it comes to imposing arbitrary and/or unduly harsh penalties for inadvertent/minor violations, but if JW is ruled ineligible for the entire season, as it sounds he has been, the NCJAA may be even worse.

If he is suspended for the season, does that prevent him from practicing with the team?

While I would never wish anything bad on any of our recruits (although this is minor compared to Zach's and Eddren's family life), is it wrong to be somewhat selfishly glad other schools will not be seeing him in actual competition before he can sign a LOI with us?

Unbelievable. The way he's been treated since he got here, I wouldn't blame him if he got on the next plane back to Belgium. That said, I hope he stays in school, gets his AA and finally makes it to BU next year.

The 5 game suspension by the NCAA is insane compared to what others have done and gotten away with, but this decision by the NJCAA is in a word unfair, I have to wonder if there is a presidence and if this decision is exactly as any previous decision the NJCAA is concerned.

Regardless in a way this is likely best for BU. Out of sight out of mind so to speak. Hopefully Wilkins will sign the LOI and be here on campus next season.

As bad as it sounds... this could benefit BU. If any of the rumors are true that other bigger schools were looking at him, they will probably back off now that he will be out of basketball for so long. It will be interesting to see what happens from here...
