Shoe money

MJ doesnt throw his money around, ask anyone who has ever waited on him or caddied for him. He might try to clout his way to a deal, but he personally wont do any buying out on this situation.
 
Never fear- I predict UCF will have a new shoe sponsor in the next few days, and it will be one that has a swoosh for a logo.
 
While I do not believe Marcus is a game changing D1 player, he did accomplish more in the high school state tournament than most of our roster...

Sure, it would be dumb for a pro athlete to refuse to wear his sponsored gear. But I cannot fault an amateur athlete refusing to wear sponsored athletic accessories that solely benefit someone else. Are UCF players pro or not? (obviously you have to wear the uniform, but shoes have some leeway as long as they conform to certain colors...)

These shoe contracts have been going on for a long time and for Jordan to refuse to wear Addias is rediculous, the school will now lose their extra benefits from Addias just because a spoiled kid got his way, the school should have told him that he has 2 choices, wear the shoes or pack up and find another school. I hope he realizes he just screwed the rest of the athletic dept. out of some nice extra benefits.
 
How much money do you want to bet the Nike will make up the difference? This time next year the swoosh will be on all their gear! Go figure.

I was hoping the school would have done just that.
But I don't think they will lose much, Nike will step in. IMO, the greatest basketball player of all time should have set the kid straight. There are many other schools that wear Nike, go find one of them.

Just maybe this all works out for the school! It would be hard to believe that professional adults in this field would not have calculated this precise setup. You maybe giving the kid too much credit. :wink:

Not giving him any credit. Everybody knows who his famous father is. MJ should have told him to be a good teammate and wear what the other players are wearing or go somewhere else.
 
Since Marcus Jordan just cost his school $2 Million dollars does that now make him a "professional athlete" and ineligible to play college ball? I mean, really, what is the difference between what he did and a college athlete accepting pay from the university? His university made the decision to lose $2 million dollars in order to get him to play ball for them.

If I was a faculty member, coach, or athlete at that school I would be looking for someone to resign over this! :( (Regardless of whether or not pimp Nike makes this school their wh0re)

ALL of our freshman. Probably EM, in a year or two maybe everyone. He's no MJ, but the kid can play. I actually feel sorry for the kid in a way, he has people being a lot more critical of him because he was MJ's son. There were HUGE advantages to being his son, but you, and other, wouldn't be criticizing his play if he wasn't. Granted the shoe thing wouldn't be an issue either.

Next he'll probably hold a press conference to rip his teammates and his coach and invite all of them just to do it in person and say they're all to blame for why Adidas is their sponsor. :rolleyes:

His dad won 6 rings and is the greatest player to ever walk on the court. I'd LOVE to have been his team mate.

Chico my point went over your head! If you do not think the good people at UCF did not know what they were getting into you are mistaken. Just maybe they were hoping that this would happen and that Nike is in the background from day one of that LOI being sent whispering in their ear that they will make them whole no matter what. :-o BTW..Why would his father go against an organization that has paid him MILLIONS! This is great PR for them no matter how you spin it. How much time have we spent on this thread.

Son goes to UCF where Adidas is worn.
Son refuses Adidas and plays in Nike.

I agree. But never ever forget who built those teams, Jerry Krause, one of our own, once a Brave always a Brave. Jordan was there when Jerry got there but Jerry made great moves - Pippen, Grant, Armstrong, Paxson, Cartwright, Levingston, and many more than I can remember without reasearching and even Hawkins (towards the end of his career).

I agree Jordan was great but was he loyal to the people who put the pieces in place to help him make all that money. No.

Don't get me started talking about Phil Jackson, he knows nothing about loyalty either.

Nothing went over my head. It's evident you know what the good folks at UCF were up to or you are giving THEM too much credit. Again, he knew what shoes his teammates would be wearing when he signed his letter of intent.
