SIU beats Tennssee Martin- 91-63

nice game for Carlton Fay after CLO took him out of the starting lineup...
..looks like the refs needed their spare whistles for this one...

has anyone else noticed something about Evansville...Van Tongeren starts every game, does poorly, then comes out after 10-12 minutes and doesn't play any more...looks like he may not be a starter for long?
same thing happened last year...he started 30 games, played only 16 mpg (7th on team) but his scoring and rebounding may be the worst of any starting center in the Valley, and only 2 assists all year in over 500 min.

Fay looked amazing but I am not going to get too excited about it yet. First of all he played about half of his minutes against UTM's backup front court. Second of all, our first 5 games last year he was incredible... so much so that I told my buddy I would kiss his (butt) if he didnt win MVC POY before he graduated. whoops. Like last night he was creating his own shot, scoring with people in his face, and averaging more points than minutes played. After that he had an oblique/back injury that nagged him night in and night out for the rest of the year and he seemed to lose his confidence. He dropped from superstar to serviceable and decent, maybe slightly above average.

Dillard and Tony Freeman dominated in the backcourt in this one. I think that will be the case quite often this year. Hopefully the frontcourt can keep up!
