Another Matt Roth injury

tornado

New member
Matt had his nose broken a couple weeks ago and has been wearing a Sam Singh-like protective mask..
but on the first day that the Indiana Hoosiers are in Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Top Off,
he has injured his foot and was taken off the court for Xrays.
The diagnosis is pending and it is uncertain if he'll be able to play in Indiana's first game Thursday PM.

Just a thought.... Matt is now out which means a probable medical red shirt for this year. Maybe he sees the writing on the wall that IU has recruited over his head and will now transfer to BU and join his old teammate DSE.

I do know for a fact that is very happy at Indiana....:D

I hope not... I like JE more, and feel the scholly would be better used elsewhere...

I agree! I also want guys that want to be here from the get go. Just my preference. If we recruited them hard and they went somewhere else I'm done with them. Unless he has the ability to get us to the promise land and a league championship. like Larry Bird, I'd be happy for him to just move on. Damaged goods in my book.

MR had his chance. That window is closed. He'll redshirt and be back at IU riding the pine, and now for 3 more years.

Hope he comes back and has a good career at Indiana. He's not the first area kid to go elsewhere and he won't be the last. We were glad to welcome back Curtis Stuckey and Marcellus after they decided to go elsewhere.

Good post

guys - this is about an unfortunate injury to Matt, I have watch Matt play since he was in 5th grade and my own kids played against him..he is a great kid and still has the potential to be the kind of player as the Arkansas kid who nailed 13 3-pointers and hit 51 pts...if only they'd use him in that capacity...
Now with the injury he's cheated out of a whole year....hopefully he gets 100% well and makes a great return..

Apparently due to privacy concerns no official word on the extent of Matt Roth's injury.
But he did have xrays and is on crutches and will not play this week in Puerto rico and will be "reevaluated upon return to Indiana".
Unofficial reports still say it is fractured..and there is surgery planned for next week, but awaiting official reports.
Best of luck to Matt...I hope it turns out OK.

Unfortunately there appears to be an injury to Matt's wrist as well as his ankle.

With regards to playing for the Braves, why not if that is what he wants to do now?

Good observations with Sommerville, etc. And no recruitment gone bad could be worse than the Tyler Smith bail out from Tennessee when Bruce Pearl was hired but UT had the good sense to welcome him back with open arms after Smith spent 1 year in Iowa City.

I don't think MR has any desire to play for the Braves.

You have great wisdom BB and I follow your lead often.

IMO, I think MR always wanted to be an Illini. Without landing his "dream destination", he goes to Indiana. He wants to show to UIUC they shoulda took him in.

Who knows - he may end up transferring to Bradley. But I believe you are right - he has no desire to play for the Braves.

Good luck to MR - Wish him the best.

Maybe his team needs him more than they knew...
as Matt watched his Hoosier teammates melt down and lose to mid-major Boston U. last night.

When you get beat by a team that shoots 29% and but grabs 20 more rebounds then you, then it'll be a long season in the Big Ten.
