Things to look for against NIU

Don't be mad a me but this is what I don't get, help me

There are a few posters, I enjoy reading their posts, and apparently our coach, that would prefer to call the NIU game a 'trap game' rather than a regular season non-conference game against a good opponent.

Now if you label it a 'trap game', then I guess no one is held accountable for a bad game, not the coach and not the players if they miss 60% of their shots. After all, it's a 'trap game', we weren't suppose to win because it's a 'trap game'. Why not call it what it is, it's a game.

Maybe we can lead the nation in this, we can start calling all our games 'trap games' before we even play them, that way we won't feel bad IF we lose.

The point I'm trying to make is, why make excuses before we even play a game by calling it a 'trap game'.

And I'm not expecting us to lose, but if we do I sure won't call it a 'trap game' loss.

making a mountain I think we are... just a caution by the coach to make sure we are aware of the natural let down after an emotional "W" I doubt he is makin an excuse..

I agree Mrcoachdude. Every coach, at every level will use things like this "trap game" designation to motivate his team, and prevent a letdown. A team's mental attitude always makes a difference in how well they play, and a good coach tries to maximize that factor.

BU Rick, its a trap game because its a game in which NIU could catch Bradley off guard. Its not to say Bradley will be looking ahead to their next game, its just saying if there is any let down from the Illinois game and NIU is hyped to play a better team coming off a big win, they might pull off the victory.

There was also not one poster who said that we should not play NIU. What we said is not on the road! I want to see Illinois give us or SIU the pleasure at least!

Illinois fans would probably say the same thing about playing Bradley on the road. I do remember the Braves playing NIU in Rockford in Hawk's senior year.

Its not a trap game because we expect to lose or wont be as disappointed if we do, its like others have stated, if we come in and take them less seriously we could be for trouble.

This in from WE's twitter - Beating Northern Illinois will be most important game yet... Lettin the Illinois "W" go and building from here. LETS GET IT!

Sounds like JL has made sure the players are aware NOT to have a let down.

That is what I was saying. I'd like to see UI at least approach us to play them there. I doubt if that invitation is forthcoming anytime soon.

There is no such thing as a trap game. As a player if you don't want to (and are not ready to) stomp your opponent in the ground every night then you are not a true competitor that is mentally tough and maybe should not be playing. Trap game my arse. Play hard, be tough, and win.

I mentioned that mental toughness in another thread as a key to this season....

but I am afraid a "trap game" is what it is..a term for a let down after a big victory...it happens....now with a little mental toughness Wednesday...lets get a "W"....
