problems with BU.tv

The only problem is, how are you going to get permission to stream the Bradley games? I would assume Bradley is under contract with jumptv or whoever does the streaming?

Jason

Yes, I have a general static/color bars stream up at home. I'm getting it set up in the data center. Talked to some gstreamer/flumotion people today about HD streams. They might be tricky but SD is easy. I'll see if I can get the stream up in Savvis tonight. It will just be static though...

Yup, pretty much, this wont go anywhere without permission. But its free to mess with and I've always wanted to learn how to stream HD content.

I wonder what BU's SLA is with Jump.tv? I should check mine to see if I can get a refund. I like Guiness' approach to this! The BU.tv problem has to do with the equipment they are using.

From what (little) I understand there are ways around the system. You could stream the game and set up a private URL OR password protect a JustinTV stream. That way you could give out the PW on a selective basis to people you trust.

The end result: No one "officially" knows that you streamed the game.

But don't you actually have to have a camera or access to the arenas camera to provide the stream? If Guinness is just relaying the BU.tv stream, then it's the same as what everyone else is viewing on BU.tv. What Guinness has to do is setup the server and have the arena's cameras feed into his server. They can't go into Jump.tv's service and then into Guinness, otherwise it's the same service as everyone else is seeing.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the scenario you're describing at all...

TEST IS UP. You'll need either FireFox 3.5 or VLC Media player. HD Capture card should be here sometime next week, but I wont be able to do any REAL live video testing anywhere but at home. No video feed where the server is :(

Stream test: http://208.100.57.163:8800/ogg-audio-video/
VLC Media Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I have both, but am unable to get a connection to the test. Thanks for all of the effort. I'm looking forward to some type of miracle!

Is that a camera, showing something else playing the game, or just playing it from a file?

Its from the DVD a Bradley Fan gave me. The DVD is of the TiVO recording. The quality you're watching there is exactly the quality I have from the DVD, just a lot smaller in file size. But its an actual file being streamed out, which is why I consider it cheating. Until I'm able to pull video from a live source, it wont be cheating :)

Guiness you are the man! :D

FYI....I recieved some information that BU.tv will be working on the situation but will not be ready for Tomorrow's game! I'll keep you posted but in the meantime we have heard this before and I expect the Guiness' system will be up and running just in case!

Maybe I am oversimplifying things, but i also think BTV doesn't archive at an acceptable quality. I am watching an archived game from I believe 2006, a WEEK TV telecast, and it too is pretty poor quality, even though it was not a webcast. Seems to me it should be fine, unless it was converted at low quality.

OK the quality was terrible again for the 50th time but I received a that it was being worked on for the next game. If the quality next game is still sub-par then I hope we can form a protest group from the guys on this site and petition the new AD for some relief.

WOW. Can it get any worse? I guess this proves it.
